The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within the Public Health and Safety Division.

This position is responsible for developing and administering the food and consumer safety program services to reduce the incidence of diseases and occurrences of unhealthful conditions. Responsibilities include investigating consumer complaints and illness outbreaks to identify and eliminate threats to the public conducting public health inspections of food facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with state and federal laws and providing training related to food and safety programs.

Qualifications for this Career Opportunity

  • Knowledge of Montana statutes and rules pertaining to licensed establishments.

  • Ability to perform a public health inspection to ensure compliance with State and Federal laws.

  • Basic knowledge of public health including food safety and food borne illness investigations.

  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others maintaining them over time.

  • Meet minimum qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree in environmental health biology chemistry or a directly related field.

    • Completed microbiology course from an accredited university program or able to complete one within six months of hire.

    • Must obtain a current Montana Registered Sanitarian License within six months of hire.

    • Current Montana Registered Sanitarian licensed preferred otherwise must provide transcripts.

    • Other combinations of related education and experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
