Job Summary
The client is seeking an experienced Safety Manager to oversee and strengthen our company-wide safety program across multiple heavy civil construction projects. This individual will play a key leadership role in fostering a proactive safety culture ensuring regulatory compliance conducting training and working closely with project teams to maintain safe and efficient operations.
The ideanl candidate is a hands-on safety professional with extensive experience in heavy civil utility or infrastructure construction and a thorough understanding of OSHA regulations and New York public agency safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop implement and maintain company-wide health and safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain all safety documentation including Job Safety Manuals Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and required compliance records.
- Conduct new hire safety orientations and perform 30- and 90-day follow-up evaluations.
- Deliver safety training programs including OSHA utility construction trenching and shoring excavation safety and other required topics.
- Perform weekly safety inspections on all active project sites and ensure timely corrective actions.
- Collaborate with General Superintendents Superintendents Project Managers and Field Engineers to promote safe work practices.
- Develop and administer company safety initiatives including incentive programs and STOP Card programs.
- Maintain employee training records and certifications for all labor crafts.
- Coordinate safety inspections and corrective actions with owner representatives including NYCDDC NYCDOT NYSDOT and other agencies.
- Track participation in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks.
- Assist project teams with Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and pre-activity planning meetings.
- Coordinate drug testing as required.
- Investigate accidents incidents injuries and near misses and prepare comprehensive reports with corrective actions.
- Monitor Workers Compensation claims and assist with claim management.
- Enforce company safety policies with zero tolerance for unsafe acts or unsafe working conditions.
- Participate in weekly operations meetings and daily planning meetings as required.
Qualifications
- 15 years of safety management experience in heavy civil utility roadway or infrastructure construction.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Experience working with New York City and New York State public agencies is highly preferred.
- Excellent leadership communication and organizational skills.
- Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
- Ability to travel between multiple active project sites throughout the Greater NYC area.
- OSHA 30 required; CHST CSP or other professional safety certifications are a plus.
- Valid drivers license.
