Job Summary
About the Position
Were seeking a Roadway Bridge and Guideway Engineer to support large heavy-civil infrastructure programs including highways roads bridges transit (both rail and bus) international airports and water/wastewater projects delivered through both traditional and alternative methods. Your primary focus will be providing construction inspection and quality assurance oversight for roadway bridge guideway and related structural elements on a large-scale passenger rail infrastructure program serving as the owners representative in the field to verify that constructed work meets approved plans specifications and safety standards.
This is a long-term full-time on-site positionlocatedin the Central Valley region of California. Note: This position requires100% travelto field sites within the designatedarea.
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
- Perform daily field inspections of bridges guideways elevated structures retaining walls foundations and related civil infrastructure to verify compliance with approved plans specifications and contract requirements.
- Monitor construction activities involving structural concrete reinforcing steel prestressed and post-tensioned systems structural steel erection bearings expansion joints precast elements falsework and shoring operations.
- Evaluate completed work against project quality requirements and applicable industry standards and coordinate corrective actions with contractors resident engineers and quality assurance staff when non-conforming elements are identified.
- Review and develop inspection and testing reports material certifications placement records and quality control documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Document inspection findings deficiencies field observations and project progress through photographs and electronic reporting systems.
- Witness and record field testing material sampling structural load testing and acceptance testing activities.
- Coordinate inspection schedules with specialty inspectors survey personnel utility representatives and other project stakeholders.
- Verify implementation of approved traffic control environmental compliance and construction safety requirements within active inspection areas.
- Participate in field coordination meetings and progress reviews to resolve technical and construction issues.
- Support punch list development substantial completion inspections final acceptance documentation and record verification during project closeout.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in civil engineering construction management engineering technology or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be licensed to operate motor vehicles in accordance with California law and have the ability to travel to and between active construction sites.
- 5 years of bridge guideway railroad or heavy civil construction inspection experience.
- Experience performing construction inspections and documenting field activities through detailed inspection records and reports.
- Working knowledge of bridge guideway railroad and heavy civil construction methods structural systems engineering plans specifications and contract documents.
- Ability to interpret structural drawings shop drawings construction specifications and inspection procedures.
- Knowledge of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) principles and construction inspection practices.
- Knowledge of construction safety traffic control and environmental compliance requirements applicable to active rail and highway construction sites.
- Experience with industry standard project and construction management software (e.g. Primavera P6 TILOS Procore Unifier FieldManager or similar platforms).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/Office 365 (e.g. Outlook Teams Word Excel PowerPoint etc.).
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree in civil engineering construction management and engineering technology.
- Certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) or equivalent structural inspection certification along with an OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification.
- 10 years of bridge guideway or railroad construction inspection experience on large transportation infrastructure programs.
- Experience on passenger commuter or freight rail construction programs.
- Knowledge of AASHTO AREMA and applicable state DOT bridge design and construction standards.
- Familiarity or proficiency with Microsoft Power BI or other dashboard KPI reporting software.
Compensation Details
Expected Salary: $120k-$190k/year ($57-$91/hour). Luster provides the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might offer for this position based on the successful candidates level of experience knowledge skills abilities education certifications licenses geographic location etc. Luster reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range depending on circumstances not related to any status protected by local state and/or federal law.
