Job Title: Resource Nurse
Minimum Qualifications
- Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university;
- Valid New Mexico Board of Nursing Registered Nurse License issued by the New Mexico Board of Nursing or a compact registered nursing license from another state according to New Mexico Nursing Board rule; and
- Current New Mexico Public Education Department License as a Level 3 PreK-12 Supervisory School Nurse or ability to obtain proper licensure within 90 days of hire.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Arranges substitute coverage for nurse absences using the substitute nurse pool or by coordinating coverage with another nurse;
- Collaborates with the Director of Nursing to provide daily support as needed;
- Coordinates the CPR/AED program for the District; including providing training for new/returning instructors as required by the AHA; maintaining/replacing equipment required for teaching AHA BLS Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid classes; arranging classes for District staff as needed; providing rosters and evaluations to the AHA training center; submitting invoices for classes taught; and tracking and sending CPR and First Aid cards to class participants;
- Co-manages District schools Stock Emergency Medication Program that includes quarterly audits and requirements and compliance inspections by the New Mexico Board of Pharmacy;
- Assists in the oversight of training and delegating assignments to Health Assistants;
- Assists Director of Nursing with Health Assistant Evaluations;
- Provides daily support telephonically and electronically to Nurses and Health Assistants including but not limited to responding to questions related to orders student care procedures processes immunizations vision and hearing screenings IEP 504s and students with disabilities;
- Collaboratively develops and implements policies and procedures regarding school health and the control of communicable diseases in accordance with nursing standards state laws and established policies and procedures;
- Attends and/or conducts staff meetings and participates in committees within area of responsibility;
- Serves as a health professional on relevant teams and participates in appropriate conferences and meetings;
- Shares responsibility for the supervision and care of inventory equipment and supplies and reports safety hazards promptly;
- Updates and maintains health service documents;
- Electronic Health Record (EHR) administrative authority and super user including but not limited to document management library editing;
- Serves as a resource person to health office staff during school-wide hearing and vision screening programs helping to make appropriate referrals based on data obtained from screening when indicated;
- Provides training to health office staff on processes and procedures for routine care of ill and injured students;
- Trains and guides School Nurses to participate as a health professional in the evaluation process for students referred for special education services;
- Participates in in-service training programs workshops and continuing education to maintain professional status.;
- Maintains current BLS CPR certification;
- Performs other tasks related to area of responsibility as requested or assigned by the Director of Nursing;
- Assists School Nurse with student health and immunization records to include appropriate follow-up;
- Authorizes exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious contagious and nuisance diseases;
- Maintains communication and professional rapport with students parents and staff;
- Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules; administrative directives and regulations; school board policies; and local state and federal regulations; and
- Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the District during the term of employment.
Work Hours
Work hours are established in employment contract. Additional work hours may be required as scheduled by Executive Director of Student Services.
