The Opportunity

Pursuant to a special measure under section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic)in order topromote and help realise substantive equality for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders this position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.

Join the School of Education and Culture as a Research Fellow and play a leading role in the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project Hitting the Limits: Intersectional Sexisms in Australian Universities. Working closely with a national research team you will lead and undertake research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and gender diverse academics across Australian universities applying Indigenous knowledges methodologies and culturally informed approaches throughout all stages of the research process.

In this role you will design and deliver high-quality research engage collaboratively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participants communities and organisations and ensure the research is conducted in culturally safe ethical and relational ways. You will contribute to data collection analysis interpretation and dissemination producing high-quality publications and presentations while supporting the projects aim of improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

You will also contribute to the broader research environment through developing funding proposals supervising research support staff and higher degree research students mentoring junior researchers undertaking research-related administration participating in professional activities and conferences and making occasional contributions to teaching within your area of expertise.

As the successful candidate you will hold a doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline or demonstrate equivalent research experience with a strong track record of research publications and experience conducting qualitative and/or quantitative research. You will have demonstrated experience undertaking research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities using Indigenous methodologies and culturally responsive approaches together with a strong understanding of Indigenous Data Sovereignty Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property relational accountability and ethical research practice.

You will be a collaborative and organised researcher with excellent communication skills able to work independently and within an interdisciplinary team. You will bring experience supervising or mentoring researchers and/or higher degree research students building respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations and a strong understanding of the contemporary experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within Australian higher education.
