The Opportunity
The School of Biological Sciences is looking for a Research Fellow to play a leading role within a collaborative research team working alongside Associate Professor Carly Cook a research assistant and graduate students on a ground-breaking ARC Future Fellowship project focused on protecting biodiversity outside protected areas. This project investigates innovative approaches to biodiversity conservation by understanding and evaluating the contributions of diverse actors and places.
In this role you will develop and apply tools to evaluate different types of conservation areas examining their capacity to support existing marine and terrestrial protected areas as part of integrated conservation landscapes and seascapes. This exciting position directly contributes to advancing progress toward Target 3 of the Global Biodiversity Framework by exploring how countries can effectively leverage various conservation areas (including Other Effective area-based Conservation Measures) to help achieve the goal of protecting 30% of lands and waters by 2030.
The successful candidate will have a PhD in conservation science applied ecology decision science marine ecology environmental science or a closely related field. Demonstrated analytical skills including proficiency with the R environment spatial analysis and/or social research methods will be well regarded.
