POSITION TITLE: Research Assistant II

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Chanda Lab is seeking a highly motivated individual to support antiviral drug and immune modulator discovery programs. Under this role the ideal candidate will work in a team environment to support the execution of key high-throughput assays develop newin vitroassays and maintain virus stocks and cell culture lines.

RESPOSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Perform human primary cell and cell line culture preparation of media and reagents.
• Developin vitro assays for BSL2-level viruses to enable drug discovery flowcharts.
• Conduct in vivo studies of viral infection to evaluate lead compounds.
• Execute high-throughput assays against for screening campaigns
• Data analysis and lab notebook documentation.
• Work under minimal supervision. Independently conducts a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures while using judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives complex features and possible solutions.
• Provide interpretation and analyses of results. Troubleshoot and modify procedures.
• Responsible for compound handling and plate inventory.
• May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan.
• May provide routine equipment maintenance.
• May provide guidance/training to department.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires a bachelors degree in biology biochemistry microbiology or related field a relevant scientific discipline.
• Requires 3-5 years experience. Candidates possessing a masters degree 2 years experience required.
• Experience in working with viruses: stock generation determining infectious titers setting upin vitro antiviral assays are preferred.
• Experience with cell-based and biochemical assays using methods such as high-content imaging luminescence fluorescence and absorbance are required.
• Experience with database interface and data analysis using Excel and Prism is preferred.
• Experience with automated liquid handling instruments is a plus.
• Experience with gene expression analysis (RT-qPCR NextGen sequencing etc.) is a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Troubleshooting capability and flexibility to adapt to a fast-paced environment.

PHYSICAL REQUIRMENTS:

• This position works in a laboratory or vivarium environment.
• The position requires great attention to detail dexterity of the hands.

COMPENSATION:The expected hiring range for this position is $70304 to $79500 per year commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
