Job Summary
Position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) a student loan payment reimbursement program. Must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval award amount (up to $200000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Duties include but are not limited to:
1. Completes orientation according to expected standards.
2. Works with close supervision is responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and seeks direction from others as needed.
3. Manages workload as assigned organizes and completes own assignments in an efficient and appropriate manner.
4. Participates in the development implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary care.
5. Plans and delivers technically competent care to patients in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
6. Responsible and accountable for individual nursing practice and determines the appropriate delegation of tasks ensuring assigned delegated tasks are completed by team members.
7. Manages nursing care of patients organizes and completes own assignments in a safe and timely manner assisting team members as necessary.
8. Participates in the development implementation and evaluation of interdisciplinary care.
9. Independently plans and delivers technically competent care to patients with complex needs in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
10. Manages the care of patients while organizing and prioritizing patient care needs and ensuring assigned tasks are completed.
11. Functions as an emerging leader in providing direction to staff to identify implement and evaluate patient care needs.
12. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the plan of care is achieved.
13. Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
14. Applies clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning decision making and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.
15. Effectively functions as a leader with demonstrated outcomes for the immediate practice setting.
16. Leads and organizes delivery of care to ensure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
17. Applies advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning decision-making and evaluating outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.
18. Applies nursing expertise to lead improvement with demonstrated outcomes beyond the immediate practice setting.

Basic Requirements:
- English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE); OR Individuals attending a masters level bridge program in nursing who have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelors level degree in Nursing may have opportunity to become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board prior to completion of the bridge program. Upon achievement of a State license the individual may be appointed on temporary basis and later converted to a permanent appointment upon successful completion and graduation from the bridge program. (Reference VA Handbook 5005 Appendix G6); OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing possession of a current full active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant an appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associated degree/entry level Nursing education program. Credit for foreign nursing education higher that associate degree/entry level requires a formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized equivalency evaluation accepted by VA such as International Consultants of Delaware (ICD).
- Current full active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State Territory or Commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) Exception: Candidates who otherwise meet the basic education requirements but do not possess the required licensure may be appointed at the entry step of the grade and level applicable to the completed nursing education as a GNT on a 120-day temporary appointment while actively pursuing licensure (may be extended up to two years on a case-by-case-basis.)
Grade Determinations: The following Scope Education and Dimension criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates and if appropriate the level within a grade. Preferred Experience: 2 years Critical Care experience preferred; PACU experience highly desired.

The incumbent may be exposed to infected patients and contaminated materials and may be required to don protective clothing. The incumbent may occasionally be exposed to patients who are combative secondary to delirium dementia or psychiatric disorders. The incumbent must be a mature flexible sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations able to shift priorities based on patient needs. Must complete annual Employee Health requirements such as annual TB screening or testing as a condition of employment.
