The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room is responsible for providing skilled perioperative nursing care across multiple surgical specialties including OBGYN Orthopedics GI/General Surgery ENT Pain and Dental. This role involves floating between units as needed supporting preoperative intraoperative and postoperative patient care including circulating scrub PACU and endoscopy. The nurse collaborates closely with the surgical team to ensure patient safety and quality care within a critical access hospital setting.
Responsibilities:
Required Skills & Certifications:
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferred ideally in perioperative or acute care settings.
Proficiency with perioperative nursing practices including circulating scrub and PACU care.
Strong clinical assessment medication administration and patient care planning skills.
Experience with electronic medical records preferably Epic.
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience with multiple surgical specialties such as OBGYN Orthopedics GI/General Surgery ENT Pain and Dental.
Familiarity with critical access hospital operations.
Certification in perioperative nursing (CNOR) or related specialty credentials.
Special Considerations:
On-call requirement with variable weekend and night shifts (approximately 8 shifts per month).
Weekend work required every 3rd or 4th weekend depending on rotation and time off requests.
Shift ratios vary from 1:1 1:2 to 1:4 depending on unit and patient acuity.
Work environment includes 2-room operating suites with multiple surgical specialties.
Scrub attire provided; nurses may wear any scrub color.
Use of Epic electronic medical record system for all charting and documentation.
Scheduling:
Standard schedule is 5 days per week 8-hour shifts.
Option for 4 days per week 10-hour shifts may be available.
Shifts assigned based on unit needs and rotation schedules.
48-hour workweeks are not approved.
