The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room provides skilled nursing care and support during surgical procedures specializing in Orthopedics General Surgery Gynecology and Podiatry. This role involves patient assessment medication administration treatment planning and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The nurse will also participate in on-call rotations and maintain a 1:1 patient ratio in a fast-paced acute care environment.
Responsibilities:
Provide perioperative nursing care in the Operating Room for various surgical specialties including Orthopedics General Surgery Gynecology and Podiatry.
Perform patient assessments and administer medications as prescribed.
Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with the surgical team.
Maintain sterile field and ensure adherence to infection control protocols.
Collaborate effectively with surgeons anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals.
Participate in on-call rotations to provide coverage during weekdays and weekends.
Document nursing care and patient progress accurately and timely.
Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout surgical procedures.
Required Skills & Certifications:
Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
Minimum of 2 years nursing experience preferably in surgical or acute care settings.
Strong clinical assessment medication administration and treatment planning skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operating room environment.
Knowledge and skills in Orthopedics General Surgery Gynecology and Podiatry.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
Experience with short-term acute care facilities.
Previous experience in perioperative nursing or operating room settings.
Familiarity with sterile technique and surgical instrumentation.
Special Considerations:
On-call required: 1-2 times per weekday and 1-2 weekends per month with call days divided equally among circulators.
1:1 patient ratio expected during shifts.
Floating between units is not required.
48-hour shifts are not approved.
Scrub color for RNs is navy.
Free parking available in any unrestricted space.
Scheduling:
Standard shifts with no block schedules required.
Weekend work is not mandatory but on-call weekends are required as scheduled.
Shift assignments and call rotations are determined based on team agreements and unit needs.
