Job Summary
We are partnering with a well-established community-focused acute care medical center in Porterville California to find a skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse (RN) for their Obstetrics / Postpartum unit. This is a full-time permanent night-shift opportunity for a nurse who is passionate about delivering holistic individualized care to mothers and newborns in a supportive hospital environment.
- Setting: Acute Care Hospital Obstetrics / Postpartum Unit (Maternal Child Health)
- Patient Population: Antepartum intrapartum postpartum and neonatal patients; also gynecological and geriatric patients as needed
- Schedule: Full-Time Nights
- Shift: 6:45 PM 7:15 AM
- Weekends/Holidays: Required including call-backs weeknights and on-call as needed

- Pay Rate: $48.80 $68.31 per hour

- $10000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 3 years of RN experience
- $5000 sign-on bonus for candidates with 13 years of RN experience
Under the general direction of the Unit Director Clinical Manager and Charge Nurse the OB/Postpartum RN independently provides holistic individualized care using the nursing process for patients routinely seen on the unit. The ideal candidate demonstrates an advanced level of clinical competency nursing judgment and teaching skills with a genuine commitment to improving the quality of maternal and newborn care.
This role requires current or prior Labor & Delivery/OB experience: experienced OB nurses must have and maintain NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification upon start date while nurses new to OB will have 6 months from hire/transfer to obtain it.
- Provide age- and population-appropriate assessment treatment and care across antepartum delivery and postpartum stages
- Perform antepartum care of the stable mother and recognize maternal/fetal complications
- Support families through fetal demise stillbirth or neonatal loss with sensitivity and clinical competence
- Encourage and support breastfeeding and educate patients on newborn care
- Admit discharge and provide care for neonatal postpartum and gynecological/geriatric patients
- Function as a team member in the Delivery Room and Operating Room during C-sections coordinating with pediatricians and respiratory therapy
- Perform newborn physical assessments administer appropriate intramuscular injections and obtain Newborn Metabolic Screens and CCHD screenings
- Assemble and operate unit equipment including oxygen supplies radiant warmers neonatal monitors and bilirubin lights
- Communicate changes in patient status with supportive data to physicians and the healthcare team in a timely manner
- Adhere to Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) and EMTALA guidelines
- Maintain accurate compliant documentation per hospital policies and procedures
- Uphold all aspects of the California Nursing Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics
- Participate in emergencies and community disasters as a designated disaster service worker per the California Emergency Services Act
- Current California Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing required
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (or obtained during orientation prior to hands-on patient care)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) required upon start for experienced OB nurses; required within 6 months of hire/transfer for those new to OB
- Basic computer skills required
- Ability to read/interpret clinical documents write reports and calculate medication dosages
- Must be available for holidays weekends call-backs and on-call shifts as required
- Prior OB/Postpartum nursing experience preferred but not required
