The Labor and Delivery/Women and Newborn nurse cares for women and neonates during labor childbirth and postpartum care through discharge. They are responsible for assisting supporting and educating families throughout the birth process and postpartum period. They provide comprehensive family centered nursing care to mothers and newborns during antepartum intrapartum and postpartum stages. They educate and assist the new mother with her physical and emotional needs. They perform the dual role of caring for the infants and educating mothers about their care. The Labor and Delivery/Women and Newborn nurse must be able to recognize complications and act quickly to stabilize the situation and communicate with the patient family and appropriate physicians and specialists.

Education:
Required: Graduate of an accredited nursing program or NLN approved program
Preferred: Bachelors Degree in Nursing
Experience:
Preferred: Previous nursing experience
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Demonstrate effective leadership abilities
Exhibits valuable time management skills
Strong critical thinking/problem solving skills.
Flexibility and ability to work in a multi-tasking environment.
Licensure/Certification/Registration:

Required: RN license active in the state of Missouri
Required: BLS must be obtained within 90 days
Must obtain ACLS within one year of hire
Must obtain NRP within one year of hire
