Refuse Collector (Sanitation)

HJ Staffing is hiring Trash Collectors to support the clients Solid Waste this role youll play a hands-on part in keeping Laredo clean collecting residential and commercial waste operating equipment on collection routes and helping maintain clean safe streets and neighborhoods throughout the city.

• Ride collection routes and empty trash/recycling containers into the compactor unit on the garbage truck
• Operate hydraulic lift levers and related truck equipment safely and correctly
• Inspect carts and containers for objects that could damage equipment (rocks dirt wood metal etc.)
• Remove garbage and debris from residential and commercial areas and ensure proper disposal
• Check sidewalks curbs and collection areas to confirm theyre left clean after pickup
• Assist with general street maintenance activities as needed
• Communicate professionally with residents coworkers and City staff while on route
• Follow all safety procedures and City of Laredo policies at all times
• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Valid Texas Drivers License
• Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment drug/alcohol screening; subject to random drug and alcohol testing as a safety-sensitive position
• Basic knowledge of or ability to quickly learn safe equipment operation and handling practices
• Reliable punctual and able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus not required

• Work is performed primarily outdoors and is physically active
• Regular exposure to weather elements (heat cold dampness) and outdoor conditions (dust noise uneven surfaces)
• Must be able to exert up to 100 lbs of force occasionally up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 20 lbs constantly to move objects containers and equipment
• Frequent bending lifting walking and riding on collection equipment
