Key Responsibilities

Typical duties for a Reference Archivist:

  • Provides core reference support which includes triage of reference requests responding to reference requests.
  • Deliver high quality of customer service through multiple means i.e. phone email in-person.
  • Organizing and self management of assigned tasks.
  • Providing back up support in the collection repository basic circulation functions and duties.
  • Ability to provide in-person customer service to the public researchers and other government agencies.
  • Ability to conduct archival research in the States permanent collections to facilitate access.
  • Ability to create access and finding tools to help facilitate research and access. This also includes the ability to create outreach resources i.e. blogs social media posts.
  • Understanding of Utahs history and records generally held by the State. Allowing for facilitated access to other repositories as needed.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Customer service skills
  • Research skills
  • Information literacy knowledge
  • Good communication skills
  • Writing skills
  • Experience using Google Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in history library science or related field is preferred.
  • Knowledge about the digitization of records
  • Basic archival processing knowledge
