Position Summary
Under the general direction of the Community Services Coordinatorthe Recreation Specialist coordinates the day-to-day operations of Cityrecreation programs and activities. This position helps ensure qualityrecreational experiences for participants while promoting a positive image ofRiverdale City within the community.
The Recreation Specialist may also provide guidance and oversight topart-time staff and volunteers as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate and support City recreation programs and activities.
- Assist with the planning organization and implementation of community recreation services.
- Promote positive public relations and maintain a favorable image of Riverdale City.
- Monitor maintain and control the use of recreation equipment and supplies.
- Assist with the Citys annual Old Glory Days Celebration and other special events.
- Collaborate effectively with City staff volunteers community partners and participants.
- Provide excellent customer service to residents and program participants.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience performing recreation community services event coordination or closely related duties; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Recreation program development and administration.
- Rules and regulations associated with various sports and recreational activities.
- Personal computers and common software applications including:
- Microsoft Word
- Spreadsheets
- General office software programs
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees volunteers community organizations participants and the public.
- Work effectively with individuals from a variety of age groups and backgrounds.
- Communicate clearly and professionally both verbally and in writing.
- Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Demonstrate sound judgment initiative and problem-solving skills.
Special Qualifications
- Valid drivers license preferred.
Work Environment
This position works in both office and outdoor environments. Dutiesrequire a variety of physical activities including:
- Walking
- Standing
- Sitting
- Reaching
- Stooping
- Light lifting
Successful performance requires effective communication visualobservation hearing attention to detail and sound judgment. The positionalso requires frequent local travel as part of normal job responsibilities.
