Job Summary
BronxWorks helps individuals and families improve their economic and social well-being. From toddlers to seniors we feed shelter teach and support our neighbors to build a stronger all aspects of our work we strive for the highest ethical and performance standards and are guided by the belief that people are to be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their present situation or past experiences.
Across our 60 locations we provide programs in a variety of service areas including workforce development children youth families seniors and homeless prevention.
Our family shelters are safe welcoming spaces where families can stay temporarily while they work toward long-term stability. Program staff provide compassionate support life-enhancing services and community-based resources to help empower each family. Together we guide families on their journey back to independence and into permanent housing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree required
- Two years of experience working with youth in a recreational educational and/or social environment.
- Clearance through New York State Central Registry and New York State Office of Children and Family Services required.
- Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop recreational program
- Supervise Youth Workers
- Create a nurturing and supportive environment for the youth
- Implement various recreational educational social and team building activities
- Provide classroom management and instruction
- Monitor program for quality assurance and contract compliance.
- Act as liaison with parents
- Attend regular staff meetings.
- Attend First Aid Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation( CPR) and Responding to Emergency (RTE) training
- Attend staff training sessions
- Maintain monthly schedule of activities for children
- Conduct 1 informational session a month for parents
- Submit reports to supervisor monthly or more frequently as required.
- Represent the agency at meetings and Events.
- Meet monthly with program coordinator and/or program director for supervision
- Perform additional duties as assigned by manager.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to use a computer for prolonged periods.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Ability to stand walk or sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to climb five flights of stairs if required to conduct home visits and/or fieldwork.
- Ability to bend and retrieve objects and/or documents.
- Ability to travel in the boroughs of New York City and its adjacent counties via public transportation.
- Ability to travel for a minimum of 1 mile within a reasonable amount of time and in all types of weather including inclement weather if required to conduct home visits and/or field work.
- TB Test required within the first 120 days of employment
