Long-term substitutes are compensated at a daily rate of $125.00 for the first 20 workdays of an assignment. Beginning on the 21st workday compensation increases to the applicable daily rate based on the substitutes educational qualifications: $346.55 per day for those with a Bachelors degree or $372.42 per day for those with a Masters degree. This rate remains in effect for the duration of the assignment.

This is a full year long term substitute position. This classroom position prepares and teaches lessons on Reading skills to 7th & 8th grade students.

Qualifications:

Education Training and Experience:

  1. Earned Masters Degree in Reading Language Arts or Language and Literacy from an accredited college or university.
  2. Demonstrated subject matter competence highly qualified in the area of licensure.
  3. MA DESE license in Reading or English

Knowledge Required:

  1. Currency in the curriculum including knowledge of the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  2. Effective planning and assessment of curriculum and instruction.
  3. Effective classroom management.
  4. Effective instruction in a standards-based classroom.
  5. Promotion of high standards and expectations for student proficiency.
  6. Promotion of equity and appreciation of diversity.
  7. Effective integration of technology across the curriculum.
  8. Fulfillment of professional responsibilities.
  9. Possesses specialized knowledge of the Dimensions of Literacy (phonological awareness phonics fluency vocabulary comprehension writing motivation to read).
  10. Possesses specialized knowledge of assessment and diagnosis which is vital for informing instruction and identifying students specific needs.

Abilities Required:

  1. Ability to deliver effective instruction.
  2. Ability to differentiate instruction to meet student needs.
  3. Ability to administer required student testing and assessments.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with students parents colleagues and administrators.
  5. Ability to articulate and communicate a coherent and congruent literacy program.
  6. Ability to provide both remedial and developmental reading programs.

  2. Excellent listening speaking reading and writing skills.
  3. Effective interpersonal skills.
  4. Skills in the specific subject matter of instruction.
  5. Skilled in addressing reading difficulties.
