R 3328 Personal Care Teacher Assistant BIS

JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in achieving educational objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help themachieve the standards of instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• One year of college required; two years of college preferred.
• Physical condition so as to be able to managebehavior/physically challenged students; must have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Basic understanding of child growth and development.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Principalmay find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Principal

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Demonstrate ethical behavior and maintain confidentiality ofstudent information.
• Current restraint program certification.
• Work with individual students or small groups to reinforcelearning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
• Guide independent study enrichment work and remedial workset up and assigned by the teacher.
• Implement student behavior plans.
• Awareness of identified student health concerns monitor/assistas appropriate in collaboration with teacher and nurse.
• Toileting/personal care/hygiene when necessary.
• Awareness of student-assistance protocol.
• Assist with collecting maintaining and organizing data andportfolios and/or work samples of student(s).
• Assist student(s) with organization of desk homework classwork and materials.
• When applicable consult daily with teachers and other serviceproviders.
• Facilitate student(s) social interaction.
• Other duties as assigned by the teacher or Principal.

JOB ENVIRONMENT: K-12 School

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Include frequent standing walking stooping climbing

bending kneeling crawling reaching pushing pulling and lifting

up to 50 pounds; and possible exposure to bacteria and

communicable diseases depending on specific assignment.
