Job Summary

TITLE: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL

JOBGOAL: Demonstrate ability to inspire support and work collaboratively with students staff parents and the community in the development and implementation of school policy procedures student discipline classroom management motivation techniques student activities community relations curriculum planning and supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Masters Degree in Education or Administration
  2. Massachusetts Principal Certification
  3. Minimum of five years successful teaching or administrative experience at the elementary school level.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
  5. Demonstrated leadership skills in the areas of standards based curriculum development and school improvement

REPORTS TO: PRINCIPAL

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist the principal in the overall administration of the school.
  2. Assist the principal and the school council in the annual development implementation and assessment of the school improvement plan.
  3. Assist in the development articulation implementation coordination and assessment of curriculum within both the school and the district.
  4. Supervise and evaluate staff designated by the principal.
  5. Assist in all phases of staff development programs.
  6. Assume responsibility for the coordination development and supervision of student behavior.
  7. Assist teachers with behavior management techniques in and out of the classroom.
  8. Oversee matters pertaining to student discipline and bus transportation.
  9. Process and maintain computerized records of discipline referrals.
  10. Supervise student attendance and address issues of chronic absenteeism and tardiness.
  11. Work with the principal students staff and parents to establish school rules and regulations for publication in the faculty and student/parent handbooks.
  12. Check for vandalism and follow through on incidents that occur.
  13. Maintain records related to the requisition of supplies textbooks and equipment.
  14. Prepare with the guidance department the master schedule staff duty assignments and student team assignments.
  15. Develop and implement student programs pertinent to the transitions of students from one level to the next
  16. Work with various departments in the development of the annual budget.
  17. Coordinate and supervise student activities organizations and orientation programs.
  18. Work with parents faculty and student groups in advancing educational related activities and objectives.
  19. Serve as the administrative liaison to the Special Education Dept.
  20. Maintain close communication with guidance counselors parents and outside agencies involved with students.
  21. Assist in strengthening lines of communication and education with parents and the community.
  22. Develop and supervise opportunities for student participation in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  23. Assume supervisory responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  24. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities assigned by the principal.
