Job Summary

We have an opening for a Graduate Student Intern to engage in practical research experience to further their educational goals. You will perform simulations to relevant linear and non-linear response of materials via quantum methods. This position is in the Quantum Simulations Group of the Physics Division of the Physical & Life Sciences Directorate.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will 

  • Calculate electromagnetic response and spectra of driven material systems through simulations
  • Develop analysis tools for simulation results
  • Analyze results and provide weekly updates.
  • Present work through presentations and/or poster sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

  • Must be eligible to access the Laboratory in compliance with Section 3112 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).  See Additional Information section below for details.
  • Must be a continuing student in good standing at an accredited institution pursuing a PhD in Materials Science Physics or related field
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in Physics or related field.
  • Ability to apply basic physics principles to solve technical problems.
  • Demonstrated effective communication skills.
  • Ability to present and communicate concepts and ideas.
  • Knowledge in Materials Science/Physics/Applied Mathematics/Applied Sciences.
  • Familiarity with modern computer-based data analysis approaches summarizing and presenting results.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience running electronic structure simulations code specifically using TDDFT and DFT theory.

Pay Range

$6752 - $8201 Monthly

This position is under a step structure.  Please note that the step placement is determined by your most recent completed academic year.
