Job Description:

Primary Purpose of Role:

The Quality Technician is responsible for application of principles and practices of product quality assurance and quality control in accordance with the dimensional aspects visual x ray in support of the Walker Die Casting Quality Management System.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run a DCC Program (Direct Computer Control) on the CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine) each die cast machine.
  • Determine from reviewing the report the part disposition.
  • Run Capability Studies and review the statistics from the study.
  • Maintain (maintenance) CMM machines.
  • Be able to read core drawings.
  • Verify work instructions are complete current and being followed
  • Confirm and document product conformance to visual standards. (To the part number specific work instructions inspection check sheets and or Quality Alerts).
  • Support Supervisors in the training of operators to identify non-conformities.
  • Initiate corrective action and containment whenever nonconforming product is found or suspected.
  • Assist in the investigation of quality issues and recommendation of improvements or corrective actions.
  • Perform gage calibration as required Callipers micrometres bore gages thread gages etc. A few of the gages are sent to another company to be calibrated.
  • Know how to perform or participate in a gage R & R study.
  • Repair and/or replace any gages that are damaged.
  • Read SPC and react accordingly.
  • Perform floor Audits and/or gage checks per required frequency and control plan.
  • Measure the parts to the blueprint provided from the customer to make sure the part meets all requirements.
  • Analyse the information and present information to the team.
  • Have ability to use and perform laser weld repair when required or assigned.
  • Overtime as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor or lead.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must be able to pass powered lift equipment testing.
  • Ability to understand standards and product specifications.
  • Problem solving.
  • Organizing.
  • Basic communication.
  • Team building.
  • Basic computing (MS Office).
  • Ability to read write and speak English.
  • The Quality Technician must be able to tolerate exposure to elements such as elevated temperature and noise during periods of time spent on the factory floor.
  • Ability to use standard measurement and test equipment.
  • Ability to work independently.

Experience:

:

  • Ability to understand blueprints standards and product specifications.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Basic communication.
  • Team building.
  • Basic computing (MS Office).

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in Quality Assurance Continuous Improvement or manufacturing preferably in a tier-one automotive manufacturing environment.

Travel or Physical Demands:

Must be able to work in hot/cold environment.
