Public Safety Firefighter Teacher

Location: Western Hills University High School.

Position Summary

Cincinnati Public Schools is seeking a qualified student-centered educator to serve as a Public Safety Firefighter Teacher at Western Hills University High School. This position is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in beginning fire program courses that prepare students for careers in the fire service emergency medical services public safety and related postsecondary pathways. The selected candidate will support student achievement through rigorous hands-on instruction credential-aligned learning opportunities career readiness development and strong connections to postsecondary and workforce outcomes.

Essential Functions

• Plan and deliver instruction aligned to district curriculum state standards course expectations and student learning needs
• Teach courses within the Public Safety Firefighter pathway including beginning fire program content that prepares students to prevent respond to and rescue people and property in fire or medical emergencies
• Provide instruction that connects students to careers such as Emergency Medical Technician and Firefighter
• Support student preparation for related postsecondary majors including Emergency Care Attendant Emergency Medical Technology/Technician EMT Paramedic Fire Science/Firefighting and Fire Services Administration
• Create and maintain a safe structured and engaging classroom and lab environment that supports positive student behavior academic growth and professional expectations
• Use a variety of instructional strategies including direct instruction project-based learning simulations hands-on practice technical skill development and performance-based assessments
• Integrate employability skills into daily instruction including communication teamwork professionalism leadership critical thinking problem-solving and workplace readiness
• Promote student participation in Career Technical Student Organizations and related competitions capstone events demonstrations or public safety activities
• Assess student progress through formative and summative measures and use data to adjust instruction provide interventions and support student success
• Differentiate instruction and follow IEPs 504 plans and other student support plans to address varied student readiness levels learning styles and support needs
• Maintain accurate records related to attendance grades student progress credentialing reporting supplies equipment fees emergency medical forms and other district requirements
• Collaborate with school staff counselors administrators families district personnel advisory committees and community partners to support student achievement and pathway implementation
• Build and maintain partnerships with fire service emergency medical service public safety agencies postsecondary institutions employers and community organizations to strengthen student learning and career exposure
• Support career-connected learning opportunities including credentialing work-based learning advisory committee engagement internships public open houses and pathway development as appropriate
• Participate in professional learning department meetings curriculum work teacher-based teams school initiatives district events parent/teacher conferences award programs and other assigned responsibilities
• Maintain professionalism manage tasks efficiently meet deadlines and complete other job-related duties as assigned
• Maintain compliance with district expectations state requirements applicable career-technical education expectations and fire instructor requirements

Minimum Qualifications

• Ability to obtain appropriate Ohio Department of Education and Workforce career-technical education licensure including CTE provisional licensure if applicable
• Current Ohio Department of Education and Workforce licensure in Firefighter Training code 172801 or ability to meet alternative licensure requirements through relevant work experience and/or educational attainment in a Public Safety Firefighting/EMT related field
• Current and valid firefighter certificate in good standing
• Valid instructor certificate to teach Fire Fighter Level II as identified by the Ohio Department of Public Safety Division of EMS
• Ability to meet or complete applicable Ohio Administrative Code requirements for fire instructor preparation examination certification and application processes
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with high school students teachers administrators families and community partners
• Strong communication organization classroom management problem-solving critical thinking analytical oral and written communication skills
• Ability to connect instruction to real-world college career fire service EMS and public safety opportunities
• State-issued identification card with photograph
• History of strong work performance including reliable attendance
• Satisfactory criminal background check and all required employment clearances

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching in a high school career-technical alternative fire academy EMS training or workforce-development setting
• Experience in firefighting emergency medical services emergency response fire science public safety or related public service fields
• Experience supporting industry credentials pathway development work-based learning advisory committees or career-connected learning opportunities
• Experience developing rigorous hands-on instructional experiences that promote students personal and professional growth
• Experience building partnerships with employers public safety agencies fire departments EMS providers postsecondary institutions or community organizations
• Strong understanding of student engagement career readiness applied instruction technical skill development and professional safety expectations

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of fire service emergency medical services public safety career fields and related workforce expectations
• Knowledge of content curriculum instructional methods materials equipment safety procedures and program expectations related to the Public Safety Firefighter pathway
• Ability to provide engaging career-focused instruction that prepares students for postsecondary success industry credentials and employment pathways
• Ability to supervise students in classroom lab hallway assembly community and career-connected settings while following district expectations and the student code of conduct
• Ability to build positive relationships with students staff families public safety partners postsecondary partners and community organizations
• Ability to organize instructional materials manage equipment and supplies maintain documentation and meet reporting deadlines
• Ability to stay current with subject matter pedagogy technology licensure requirements and professional expectations associated with the assignment
• Commitment to equity student success safety professional conduct and continuous improvement

CONTRACT PROVISIONS

Contract Provisions: 191 days Limited Contract

Salary:Starting at$53272.41 with placement on the negotiated Teachers Salary Schedule based on education experience and applicable contractual provisions.

Working Conditions

• School-based setting with instruction provided at Western Hills University High School
• Frequent standing walking speaking hearing supervision of students and use of classroom lab instructional and safety-related technology or equipment
• May include supervision of students in classroom lab community fire service emergency response or career-connected settings
• May require attendance at district events advisory committee meetings parent/teacher conferences award programs open houses and other school or community events
• Must maintain all required licensure certifications professional development and safety expectations associated with the assignment
