What will you do for HCTRA:
HCTRA is seeking to fill a role within our Capital Planning Division for planning landscape architecture engineering or similar position. You will have the opportunity to manage multiple disciplines to deliver complex solutions that further the organizations vision and goals. We are looking for someone who can bring innovative ideas to solve some of HCTRAs biggest transportation challenges. The role requires an understanding of how all modes of transportation work with surrounding land use placemaking economics and environmental issues to deliver multidisciplinary solutions that meet the needs of the community.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The responsibilities listed below represent key aspects of the role but are not all-inclusive. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support the team and department objectives.
Project Management
Being in a public role youll be guiding consultants to deliver projects using a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to integrate human experience environmental context and community priorities. This requires thinking outside of the box pushing the envelope and strong project management skills:- Managing and monthly reporting of scope schedule budget and project goals
- Ensuring quality deliverables
- Constant communication with consulting teams internal and external stakeholders and the general public
- Implementing best practices for risk management to minimize impact of potential issues
This role requires top-notch communication skills not only within the project but internal and external communication as well:- Coordination with consulting teams to ensure quality deliverables that further HCTRAs vision
- Internal coordination to provide planning expertise for other project phases and general organization needs
- External coordination project-related with stakeholders and the general public but also with partner agencies to ensure regionally coordinated efforts
Youll be encouraged and expected to stay up-to-date with relevant topics and solutions not just on transportation topics to ensure holistic solutions are being provided. Youll be representing HCTRA as subject matter expert.
This includes:- Attending and presenting at related conferences
- Researching and reporting on relevant topics and issues
- Pushing the envelope on projects to come up with implementable out-of-the-box ideas
- Requirements
Education:
- Bachelors degree in Planning (Urban & Regional; Transportation) Landscape Architecture Engineering or similar curriculum from an accredited college or university.
- Bachelors degree required from an ABET accredited college or university for Engineer positions.
- Masters Degree in related field and/or Certifications such as AICP (American Institute of Certified Planners) PLA (Professional Landscape Architect) and P.E. (Professional Engineer).
- A valid Texas drivers license and good driving record.
- Any combination of planning design project management or related fields.
- Experience with written oral and visual communication to a variety of audiences.
Were seeking a candidate with strong knowledge and experience in urban and regional planning transportation safety placemaking and designing streets and public spaces for diverse users and communities. You should be familiar with current design standards and best practices for multi-modal transportation and resilient infrastructure.Were also looking for someone who is:
Able to work independently or on a diverse team that may include planners landscape architects engineers data analysts and researchers
A strong communicator both in writing and in person
Organized and able to manage tasks people and priorities effectively
A team player who can collaborate with internal teams and external partners

- Skilled in Microsoft Office 365 Bluebeam Adobe Acrobat and design tools like Adobe InDesign or illustrator
Experienced with mapping and GIS tools preferred
Comfortable using project management software and collaboration platforms like Microsoft Teams and SharePoint

- General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
- Full-time 40 hours per week Monday - Friday
- Hours and days may vary based on agency needs and or emergency situations.
- Work is mainly conducted indoors. However the job may require some time outside on project sites in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to extreme temperatures (high and low) noise and high-speed traffic.
- May be exposed to other hazards during inclement weather or maintenance emergency response activities.
- Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must be able to safely and efficiently move around all parts of a construction site including excavations heights and confined spaces.
- Reports To Position: May report to a Deputy Director Assistant Director or Manager
- Supervises Positions: May supervise up to two employees*

Required Experience:
IC
