SUMMARY/SCOPE:

Program Director over Surgical Technology is a full-time12-month administrative faculty appointment with teaching position is responsible for program administration organizationsupervision continuous quality improvement and academic oversight includingcurriculum planning and development to ensure compliance with CAAHEP/ARC-STSAstandards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:These examples do notinclude all possible tasks & do not limit the assignment of related tasks.

Bear overall responsibility forthe Surgical Technology education programs including budgeting facultyand staff supervision and development assessment ongoing curriculumdevelopment and revision student recruitment and meeting the accreditationrequirements of CAAHEP/ARC-STSA and the Southern Association of Colleges andSchools (SACSCOC).

Lead continuous quality reviewand improvement activities including outcomes assessment.

Provide academic oversiteincluding curriculum planning development and revision.

Coordinate and documentadvisory committee meetings faculty meetings and recommendations.

Ensure adequate programresources (faculty clinical sites equipment instructional materials).

Support student recruitmentprogression remediation and retention processes as needed.

Recruit hire mentor manageand evaluate faculty members and clinical coordinator (full-time and/oradjunct) to meet accreditation requirements for teaching within thisinstitution.

Working with the Director ofClinical Education to obtain clinical practice settings and/or assisting withstudent supervision in the clinic.

Maintain accurate records andensure compliance with institutional policies and procedures.

Providing evidence of facultyexpertise and knowledge to teach curriculum content.

Verifying students completionof program requirements.

Maintaincommunication with the Dean and other University Administrative officials.

Completion ofall university required documents including the 5-year Annual Report and theAnnual Assessment of Learning Outcomes (ALOC) reports.

Guide and mentor students.

Guide long andshort-term strategic planning by providing a vision for the departments.

Guide development andmaintenance of departmental policies and procedures.

Provide leadership tothe department in scholarly efforts.

Promote and supportfaculty professional development.

Promote departmentalinvolvement and communication within the college university and community.

Support collaborativeand interdisciplinary experiences for faculty and students.

Provide service to theUniversity and community including active participation on various Universityand College Committees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct supervision of all facultyand staff within the Surgical Technology program.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES (Language Mathematical Reasoning and Computer Skills):

LANGUAGE SKILLS:Abilityto read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professionaljournals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to writereports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectivelypresent information and respond to questions from groups of managers clientscustomers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Abilityto add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using wholenumbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio andpercent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:Abilityto solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables insituations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret avariety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Computerliteracy including experience with Microsoft Word and Excel and willingnessto learn to use university software and online educational platforms.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

The Program Directormustmeet the requirements of CAAHEP/ARC-STSA accreditation

Must hold an unencumberedcurrent license or privilege to practice as a Certified Surgical Technologist inthe state of Texas.

Minimum of 5 years ofexperience either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor insurgical technology or a combination of both within the past 10 years.

Must be a graduate of aneducation program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognizedprogrammatic agency.

An associate degree is required.

A bachelors degree is highlyrecommended.

Must possess a credential inthe field of surgical technology through a national certification program thatis accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).

Teaching experience in asurgical technology education program is highly recommended and preferred.

Must have demonstratedknowledge skills and abilities in administration.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES REGISTRATIONS:

Must hold a current andunencumbered license or eligibility for licensure to practice as a licensedSurgical Technologist in the State of Texas.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

This position is a Full-TimeExempt Level Faculty Position with a teaching load at the Hardin-SimmonsUniversity campus. Must be willing to relocate to Abilene Texas or thesurrounding area to teach in-person classes on the HSU campus.

Aminimum of a 40-hour work week is expected and possibly more during peakperiods of the academic year. Infrequent work on evenings or Saturdays whenneeded.

Must have and maintain a validClass C Drivers License and maintain a clear driving record to be insurableunder the university liability policy.

Must be able to drive tocomplete work assignments on and off campus as needed.

Occasional travel may berequired.
