Reporting to the Production Manager this role is responsible for general oversight of the MetalShop department. This role focuses on team performance safety operations improvement costcontrol and consistently achieving quality and timeline expectations.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONSmay include but are not limited to:
- Supervises plans and leads production operations to meet expected performance targetsof available resources (people equipment space inventory and time)
- Helps evaluate subcontractor or vendor capabilities when outsourcing is required
- Partners with the Production Manager to identify resource needs based upon projectscheduling (current and future)
- Provides daily work assignments to team members as well as adjusts resources based onproject priorities as needed
- Keeps the production capacity sheet updated daily and aligned with priorities
- Collaborates with PEs/LEs to help prioritize workload and ensure any specialty materialsare on order
- Proactively informs Project Engineers of any rework within their department as soon as ithappens and creates counter measures within the department to reduce rework
- Ensures routine maintenance of Metal Shop equipment and recommends the purchase ofnew equipment or techniques that will improve production efficiency quality orcompetitiveness
- Leads metal shop team meetings involving upcoming projects PTO requests financialspersonnel changes and upcoming training opportunities.
- Maintains a safe working department ensures department consistently complies with allsafety policies and supports all DI Safety Team initiative
- Submits quarterly inventory on time to the Finance Dept.
- Recruits onboards trains sets job expectations and develops current and new teammembers using the matrix
- Identifies and requests overtime temporary staffing and resource sharing amongdepartments as needed to meet deadlines
- Conducts yearly performance evaluations for all Metal Shop employees
- Conducts regular 1:1 meetings with their employees to discuss career goals andleadership development
- Creates and executes performance improvement plans when necessary
- Creates and executes career developments plans when needed
- Reviews daily timesheets time off requests and any expenses submitted via Paycom bydesignated company deadline
- Attends all relevant project kickoff meetings and DIP meetings when asked to reviewschedule and scope capabilities
- Ensures material issuance is being allocated correctly and consistently
- Supports and builds a collaborative and positive culture both within supervised team andcross-functional teams.
- Follows DI company handbook regarding punctuality and attendance. Encourages and is amodel for others to follow these policies
- Communicates and follows appropriate slack channels to keep up on real time projectchanges
- Participates in opening the shop for Saturday workers ( max once per month)
- Submits purchasing requests into Wrike and acknowledges when items are received
- Ensures team attends company training sessions relevant orientations and other events topromote employee and team engagement
- Physically assists team with daily operations when necessary
- Works closely with Facilities Manager to ensure all hazardous waste materials are handledand stored safely as well as documented properly
- Monitors bottlenecks and proactively develops process improvements to increasethroughput
- Ensures all work coming out of the metal department follows UL standards
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
- Keen eye for quality control and quality assurance
- Functions as a hands-on subject matter expert who provides value to Estimating Designand Engineering beyond meeting attendance by offering timely practical guidance.
- Expert knowledge of reading and interpreting drawings
- Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and a strong work ethic
- Knowledge of tools and equipment needed for the Metal Shop Department
- Is proficient at reading and understanding engineering drawings
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal that demonstrate solution-orientedcomponents
- Ability to be firm but respectful to ensure everyone on the team stays on schedule withdeliverables
- Leads by example and is able to be led
- Consistently maintains a professional standard that is modeled by the entire team
- Exhibits a positive professional attitude and approachable communication/leadershipstyle
- Has a thorough understanding of timelines and the ability to prioritize to meet them

- Is proficient in material identification and each of their functions and restrictions

- High level of comfort in a fast-paced team environment where accountability andinnovative thinking are highly valued
- Proficient with DI software tools such as Wrike Paycom Slack etc
- Strong understanding of metal fabrication tolerances structural considerations andmaterial behaviors
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- 5 years experience working or supervising in a production environment
- Experience in lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies is a plus
- Construction or welding certificate from an accredited community college trade school orsimilar a plus
- OSHA safety certification is a plus
