Job Description

This classification level is responsible for managing training and supervising daily activities and employees within a specialized unit district field service division. Responsibilities may include supervising assigned unit probation officer staff; conducting presentence/predisposition reports and/or supervising an active caseload in accordance with rules and standards; assisting in completing case file reviews; supervise/review case plans to ensure tracking and management of goals; working with treatment providers within the community; supervising the investigation of violations and discussing sanctions; monitor the conduct of cognitive group therapy meetings; supervise the conducting of drug tests; review prepared probationer progress reports; arresting or detaining probationers per statute; performing field and home visits for assessment and reassessment.

Specifically this Probation Supervisor will oversee the Adult Pre-Sentence Investigation Unit.

Work Schedule:

Core hours are MondayFriday daytime.

As part of our 24/7 commitment to community safety occasional on-call evening weekend and holiday availability may be required.

Salary and Compensation:

  • Starting Salary:$66495.93 annually (Hiring Rate).

  • Immediate Growth*:Earn a 2.5% pay increase after successfully completing your probation period (if starting at Hiring Rate).

  • Starting Rate Flexibility:Higher starting pay may be considered based on education and experience subject to final management approval.

    • *Please Note:Candidates approved to start above the Hiring Rate (at or above the Minimum Permanent rate) are not eligible for the 2.5% post-probation increase.

  • Future Increases:Annual cost-of-living adjustments (applied on July 1) are subject to State Legislature approval.

Job Duties

1.Supervises assigned probation unit staff to include planning prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; coordinating staff training; and implementing hiring discipline and termination procedures.

2. Manages and directs day-to-day probation operations and functions for the assigned specialized unit; ensures conformance to work standards operating procedures and system policies.

3. Conducts presentence/predisposition reports and/or supervise an active caseload in accordance with system rules and regulations.

4. Trains probation staff within a specialized unit district field service division or satellite office in practices policies and procedures associated with the supervision and investigation of offenders and monitor their compliance with system standards.

5. Evaluates lower-level staff case plans and intervention strategies; ensures a standard of quality and compliance in approved strategies; provides guidance to lower-level staff regarding challenging or unique cases.

6. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education:Bachelors degree in the social sciences criminal justice or related fields AND

  • Experience: 7 years experience working in a probation system or related organization

Note: An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.

All educational credits must be granted from an accredited institution approved by the U.S. Dept. of Education.

  • Ability to remain calm professional and effective when interacting with individuals who may be distressed resistant or adversarial.

  • Skill in verbal de-escalation conflict resolution and maintaining control of challenging situations.

  • Capacity to engage in physical intervention including physical contact in accordance with training and safety protocols.

  • Applying applicable laws rules and regulations.

  • Preparing activity reports and updating databases.

  • Operating computers and applicable software applications.

  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers supervisors the general public and others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Physical Requirements

Incumbents may be subjected to environmental threats odors dust inadequate lighting workspace restrictions and travel.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time the job is rated for Light Work.
