Mission
The Principal Solutions Architect is Trilogys senior technical leader for federal growth pursuits responsible for translating agency missions operational challenges and acquisition requirements into differentiated secure and executable solutions. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Technology Officer and working in direct partnership with Business Development Capture Proposal Pricing and Delivery this role ensures Trilogy enters each priority pursuit with a compelling technical strategy credible implementation approach and clear path from proposal commitment to successful delivery.
Scope & Environment
This is a principal-level individual-contributor role operating at the intersection of mission technology and federal acquisition. The Principal Solutions Architect leads technical solutioning for strategic opportunities across civilian law-enforcement homeland-security energy and national-security customers. Trilogys priority markets include HHS DHS and DOJ with supporting emphasis on DOE and DoD. Candidates are not expected to bring deep experience in every agency; depth within at least one priority market and experience across multiple federal mission environments are more important than coverage of every account.
The role applies Trilogys strengths in cloud-native application modernization microservices data engineering and analytics artificial intelligence and machine learning cybersecurity Red Hat and OpenShift platforms DevSecOps and Agile/SAFe delivery. The Principal Solutions Architect is expected to provide broad technical leadership and orchestrate specialist expertise not to be the organizations deepest hands-on expert in every platform or discipline. The role must know when to go deep personally when to bring in subject matter experts and how to integrate their contributions into one coherent affordable and executable solution.
What you will do:
Federal Solution Strategy and Architecture- Lead end-to-end technical solution development for qualified pursuits from early opportunity shaping through proposal submission oral presentation award and transition to delivery
- Translate agency mission needs statements of objectives performance work statements and evaluation criteria into an integrated solution architecture and delivery model
- Develop target-state architectures concepts of operation service models integration patterns security boundaries data flows and technical roadmaps that are understandable to both evaluators and delivery teams
- Design secure cloud hybrid and edge solutions using appropriate AWS Azure Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes automation and commercial or government technologies
- Incorporate application modernization event-driven microservices API enablement DevSecOps platform engineering data architecture analytics and AI/ML approaches where they create measurable mission value
- Ensure solution designs account for availability resiliency performance scalability accessibility interoperability observability data protection continuity of operations and operational support
- Apply relevant federal cybersecurity and compliance concepts including Zero Trust NIST controls Risk Management Framework activities FedRAMP-authorized services privacy requirements and agency-specific policies as applicable
- Partner with Business Development and Capture leadership to assess technical fit customer pain points competitive position discriminators solution maturity and delivery risk before bid decisions are made
- Participate in customer discovery sessions technical exchanges industry days capability briefings whiteboarding sessions and partner meetings to shape requirements before solicitation release
- Develop solution hypotheses technical win themes proof points and discriminators that align Trilogys capabilities and past performance to the customers mission outcomes
- Identify gaps in capabilities past performance credentials staffing products or contract access and recommend practical mitigation through teaming hiring investment or solution refinement
- Support opportunity qualification by estimating solution-development effort identifying critical dependencies and validating whether Trilogy can credibly staff and execute the proposed approach
- Advise capture teams on make-or-buy decisions teammate roles OEM participation small-business positioning and workshare based on technical contribution and proposal value
- Maintain technical continuity across long capture cycles so that customer insights assumptions and solution decisions are documented and reflected in the final proposal
- Own or lead development of the technical approach management-technical integration transition concepts architecture graphics solution narratives and supporting technical artifacts
- Decompose requirements into compliant response outlines solution components technical tasks staffing assumptions and measurable outcomes
- Develop or validate bases of estimate labor-category mappings level-of-effort assumptions bills of material cloud-consumption estimates license needs and other technical cost drivers
- Serve as a principal technical reviewer during Blue Pink Red Green and Gold Team activities with emphasis on compliance feasibility differentiation risk and evaluator clarity
- Prepare technical presenters and executives for oral proposals demonstrations question-and-answer sessions and customer briefings
- Ensure proposal commitments are specific supportable accurately priced consistent across volumes and executable by the organization that will deliver the work
- Conduct architecture trade studies technology evaluations build-versus-buy analyses and feasibility assessments to support defensible solution decisions
- Develop prototypes reference implementations demonstrations or proof-of-concept environments when needed to reduce technical uncertainty or strengthen the customer value proposition
- Identify solution risks involving integration data migration security authorization performance staffing schedule licensing cloud cost transition and operational continuity
- Define practical mitigations contingencies assumptions and decision points and ensure they are visible to Capture Pricing Contracts and executive leadership
- Validate that proposed technologies are supportable within federal environments align with agency enterprise standards and do not introduce avoidable vendor lock-in or operational complexity
- Balance technical ambition with affordability and price-to-win objectives without weakening mission outcomes security posture or delivery credibility
- Serve as a trusted technical representative of Trilogy with agency executives mission owners chief architects security leaders program managers contracting stakeholders and technical evaluators
- Explain complex technology and delivery concepts in mission-focused language tailored to executive operational acquisition and engineering audiences
- Build productive relationships with cloud providers Red Hat and other OEMs federal systems integrators small-business partners and specialized technology firms
- Lead technical due diligence on prospective teammates and validate that partner capabilities certifications products and personnel support the proposed solution
- Represent Trilogy in technical panels conferences partner events and market-development activities that strengthen customer access and technical credibility
- Build and maintain reusable solution patterns reference architectures proposal content compliance mappings diagrams estimation models and technical proof points aligned to Trilogys growth markets
- Maintain awareness of federal technology priorities agency modernization roadmaps emerging acquisition patterns competitor approaches and relevant commercial innovation
- Collaborate with the Deputy CTO and delivery leaders to convert lessons learned and project innovations into repeatable offerings and market-facing capabilities
- Mentor proposal contributors technical subject matter experts and emerging architects in federal solutioning evaluator-focused writing and disciplined technical decision-making
- Lead the technical handoff from Capture to Delivery including architecture decisions proposal commitments assumptions risks staffing models partner roles and customer expectations
- Support startup planning key-personnel onboarding environment readiness initial backlog development and technical governance for strategic awards
- Remain engaged during early delivery to resolve interpretation issues protect proposal intent and help the program establish a stable technical baseline
- Capture post-award lessons and update reusable assets so future pursuits benefit from actual delivery experience
What you bring
We require:
- 10 years of progressive experience in federal information technology systems engineering architecture technical consulting or solution development
- At least 5 years of experience designing enterprise cloud application-modernization data cybersecurity or mission-system solutions for federal customers
- 3 years supporting federal capture proposal development or technical solutioning
- Demonstrated client-facing capture solutioning or delivery experience within one or more of Trilogys priority federal markets including HHS DHS or DOJ; depth within at least one priority agency and experience across multiple federal mission environments are strongly preferred with DOE or DoD exposure valued
- Proven experience supporting strategic federal pursuits including pre-solicitation shaping RFIs proposals oral presentations demonstrations and structured color-team reviews
- Ability to translate complex mission and acquisition requirements into coherent architectures implementation approaches staffing assumptions schedules and technical cost drivers
- Strong working knowledge of cloud-native architectures DevSecOps APIs and microservices containers and orchestration infrastructure automation data platforms cybersecurity and enterprise integration
- Experience applying federal security privacy accessibility and compliance requirements to solution designs and proposal commitments
- Demonstrated ability to create and present architecture diagrams concepts of operation technical roadmaps trade studies solution narratives and executive-level briefings
- Experience working with federal contract vehicles task-order pursuits IDIQs BPAs GSA MAS small-business set-asides and best-value evaluation environments
- Strong facilitation technical writing executive communication and stakeholder-management skills
- Bachelors degree in computer science engineering information systems cybersecurity data science or a related technical field; equivalent directly relevant experience may be considered
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance and willingness to travel for customer partner and proposal activities
Nice to have:
- Active Secret Top Secret or agency suitability credential
- Professional-level architecture or cloud certification from AWS Microsoft Google Red Hat or a recognized enterprise-architecture body
- CISSP CCSP Security or other relevant cybersecurity certification
- Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenShift Ansible Kubernetes AWS GovCloud Azure Government or other federal cloud platforms
- Experience developing solutions for high-availability 24x7 law-enforcement public-health homeland-security energy or defense mission systems
- Experience in an SBA 8(a) small-business or growth-stage federal contractor where the architect personally contributes across capture proposal partner and delivery functions; SAFe Agile DevSecOps ITIL or project/program management credentials and practical delivery experience are also valued
Work Environment:Remote with occasional travel as required.
