The Role
Worley is seeking a Senior Instrument Engineer (contract) to support EPC project this role you will be responsible for the development review and management of instrumentation engineering deliverables while providing technical leadership across all phases of the project lifecycle. You will support procurement activities participate in supplier and equipment evaluations and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure quality compliance and successful project outcomes in a highly regulated environment.
Due to project and facility access requirements this position requires U.S. citizenship. Candidates must be able to provide proof of U.S. citizenship.
What youll do
The Senior Instrumentation Engineer will perform instrumentation engineering activities in support of EPC design procurement and project execution.
This role requires coordination with process controls electrical mechanical piping procurement supplier project quality and client teams to resolve technical issues and deliver complete design packages.
Responsibilities
- Review process data P&IDs equipment information facility design criteria safety-significant functional requirements where applicable and project specifications to establish instrument requirements.
- Prepare instrument data sheets indexes loop sheets I/O lists wiring and termination documents cable schedules installation details and related design package documentation.
- Develop specifications and requisition technical content for field instruments analyzers valves panels junction boxes calibration equipment and related materials.
- Evaluate supplier quotations technical deviations vendor drawings and supplier data for compliance with project requirements.
- Coordinate instrument interfaces with PLC DCS SIS analyzers packaged equipment data acquisition systems control panels electrical power supplies grounding networks and facility monitoring systems.
- Support safety-related safety-significant and non-safety instrumentation decisions with appropriate independence traceability and documentation.
- Check instrument deliverables prepared by others for accuracy completeness specification compliance constructability and alignment with project procedures.
- Support procurement activities by preparing technical content responding to supplier questions evaluating exceptions documenting bid evaluation results and resolving supplier comments while maintaining safety quality and project requirements.
- The Senior Instrument Engineer will also promote quality and consistency by:
- Communicating project requirements quality expectations checking procedures deliverables and schedule priorities to engineering and design team members.
- Reviewing deliverables for technical quality constructability and readiness for client procurement or construction issue.
- Supporting consistent use of project procedures nuclear quality expectations document control practices templates and checking practices.
- The ideal candidate can reconcile discrepancies between process data P&IDs instrument data control system interfaces supplier information company requirements customer specifications and nuclear fuel facility design requirements.
- Candidates should have practical knowledge of EPC execution instrumentation standards regulated facility documentation procurement practices and the technical rigor required for nuclear fuel manufacturing or similarly regulated industrial facilities.
- This position requires strong attention to detail sound engineering judgment ownership of assigned work and the ability to provide technical guidance while following project procedures and quality requirements.
What youll bring
Technical and Industry Experience
- Demonstrated ability to deliver accurate high-quality instrument engineering work in a multi-disciplinary EPC project environment.
- Strong knowledge of instrument engineering fundamentals including process data interpretation instrument selection data sheets indexes wiring and termination documents loop diagrams requisition support technical bid evaluation and checking of work prepared by others.
- Experience applying pressure temperature flow level analytical radiation monitoring gas detection valve and specialty instrumentation in regulated process facilities.
- Ability to interpret and apply P&IDs process basis information cause-and-effect requirements control narratives safety function descriptions alarm and setpoint requirements hazardous area classifications equipment layouts and vendor package information.
- Experience coordinating instrument interfaces with PLC DCS SIS HMI SCADA data acquisition industrial communications cybersecurity considerations and packaged equipment control systems.
- Experience supporting nuclear nuclear fuel cycle DOE pharmaceutical specialty chemical semiconductor or other highly regulated manufacturing facilities is strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable instrumentation and control standards and practices including ISA standards IEC practices NEC requirements NFPA 70E awareness hazardous area requirements instrument installation practices calibration concepts setpoint documentation and nuclear quality documentation expectations.
- Experience using instrument engineering tools and databases to maintain data sheets indexes requisition documentation and supplier quotation evaluations.
- Proficiency with relevant software including MS Office Suite.
- Significant senior instrument engineering experience on EPC EPCM nuclear nuclear fuel cycle chemical specialty manufacturing energy or similarly complex multi-disciplinary projects.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to explain technical requirements design decisions schedule impacts and action items to engineering disciplines procurement project management construction quality clients and suppliers.
- Ability to coordinate with procurement suppliers and vendors by communicating technical requirements resolving deviations and clarifications documenting decisions and supporting timely supplier data review.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with engineering and design teams in other offices time zones and regions.
- Proactive organized and accountable work style with the ability to identify interface gaps raise concerns early and drive open technical items to closure.
Education Qualifications Accreditation Training
Required:
- A recognized and relevant engineering degree
- U.S. citizenship is required due to project and facility access requirements
Preferred
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications in engineering management project management supervisory qualifications or equivalent experience
- Registered professional engineering credentials
- Engineer-in-Training credentials
