The Lifting and Handling Electrical Engineer will gain practical and theoretical electrical engineering experience while performing maintenance and upkeep on heavy operating equipment in a nuclear environment. This role supports the safe operation troubleshooting and improvement of lifting and handling systems used in the nuclear refueling mission for Naval Reactors. The engineer will work in a multidisciplined engineering environment collaborating closely with mechanical structural operations and maintenance personnel to ensure equipment reliability and compliance with applicable codes and standards. Responsibilities typically include supporting design changes maintenance planning field walkdowns and issue resolution for electrically powered lifting and handling equipment.
- Familiarity of the National Electrical Code (NEC) or equivalent electrical codes and standards
- Familiarity with PLCs motor controls and industrial control systems related to heavy equipment
- Familiarity working in diverse teams and interfacing with stakeholders at multiple levels (engineering operations maintenance)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to clearly convey technical issues to non-technical audiences

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion LLC (FMP) a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations.
