Job Summary
Are you interested in a career in healthcare but dont yet have direct patient care experience Mercys Pre-PCA Apprentice Program is designed to provide aspiring caregivers with the opportunity to learn foundational patient care skills while preparing for a future role as a Patient Care Associate (PCA).
As a Pre-PCA Apprentice you will work alongside experienced healthcare professionals receive hands-on training and gain exposure to hospital operations while building the skills needed to deliver exceptional patient care.
- Learn and demonstrate basic patient care skills under supervision.
- Observe and assist Patient Care Associates and nursing staff with daily patient care activities.
- Support patients with comfort safety and mobility needs as appropriate.
- Assist with stocking supplies room preparation and maintaining a clean patient environment.
- Develop an understanding of infection prevention patient privacy and safety standards.
- Participate in classroom simulation and on-the-job training activities.
- Complete all required learning modules and competency assessments.
- Build relationships with patients families nurses and interdisciplinary team members.
- High school diploma or GED required or currently enrolled and expected to graduate soon.
- Interest in pursuing a healthcare career.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Compassionate patient-focused approach to care.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
- Willingness to learn and successfully complete the apprenticeship program.
- Previous volunteer customer service caregiving or healthcare exposure.
- Interest in advancing into a Patient Care Associate Nursing or other clinical role.
