Job Summary

Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School is seeking a caring dependable and enthusiastic Teacher Aide to support our Pre-K program. The successful candidate will assist the classroom teacher in creating a safe engaging and nurturing learning environment for our youngest learners. Responsibilities include supporting daily classroom activities working with individual students and small groups preparing instructional materials supervising children during routines and promoting positive social and emotional development.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist students with classroom work ensuring that students understand all assignments given by the teacher especially those who take longer to understand materials.
  2. Assist in developing and maintaining a positive classroom environment to encourage positive behavior from students.
  3. Assist the teacher with planning and evaluating functions as designed by the teacher.
  4. Document and report relevant information regarding student progress behavioral changes or physical needs to the teacher as required.
  5. Attend and participate in staff meetings workshops and in-service programs.
  6. Support with student recess nap time and lunch ensuring these essential services are supported.
  7. Assist in preparation of materials needed for instructionincluding but not limited to: flash cards video clips learning centers and games.
  8. Perform clerical duties including but not limited to: copying filing computer input and bulletin boards.
  9. Assist children with self-help activities such as eating toileting and dressing as needed.
  10. Provide supervision and continue classroom activities in the brief absence of the teacher.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned by the program leads and the Teacher.
  12. Ride the pre-k bus as an aide to the driver to support students safe ride to/from school and maintain required staff to student ratios.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Acts 34 114 and 151 Clearances Physical and TB must be presented before employment can commence
  • High School diploma required
  • Possession of one of the following:

(a) Possession of a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential that includes content relevant to preschool-

aged children.

(b) Completion of at least two years of postsecondary study with a minimum of 60 college credits; or
(c) Possession of an associate degree or higher

If the candidate does not possess any of the above options they will commit to an educational obligation to complete thisrequired training to earn this certificate.

  • Experience with Positive Behavior Intervention Supports and restorative practices approaches.
  • Experience with Pre-K Counts curriculum materials (ieCreative Curriculum) is preferred
  • Experience with Teaching Strategies Gold is preferred
  • Experience with ECERS (Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale)is preferred

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to reach above and below the waist

Ability to use fingers to pick feel and grasp objects

Ability to lift and/or carry supplies and/or papers weighing no more than 20 lbs.

Ability to mostly stand with some walking sitting or moving throughout the work environment

Work Year:181 days during the school year. Summers off and positions return for the start of the school year.


Location:Pre-K Countsat Lower Pottsgrove Elementary School


Hourly Rate:$18.00/hour for new external candidates. Internal candidates currently employed at Pottsgrove School District with a higher hourly rate would maintain their current hourly rate if the successful candidate for this position.


Benefits:These are full-time positions which are eligible for health benefits starting the first day of employment. PSERS (state pension for educators) eligible.
