Pre-K Afterschool Facilitator (Frederick Elementary) (Part-time) SY26-27

Reports to: Principal/Head of School

Job Description:

Boston Public Schools is offering a fee-based PreK Afterschool Program at participating schools. The program provides high-quality afterschool programming for students in PreK with developmentally appropriate learning experiences and care in a safe nurturing and inclusive environment.

Terms:

Part-time approximately 17 hours per week during the school year (approximately 3.4 hours per day). Additional hours for required meetings training and professional development may be required.

Staff may opt to work all 17 hours or in any increment of 3.4 hours.

Rate: $38/hour

Responsibilities:

1. Implements curriculum and developmentally appropriate enrichment activities provided by the Boston Public Schools Department of Early Childhood.
2. Provides active supervision during all program activities and daily routines including arrival snack indoor and outdoor play transitions and caregiver pick-up.
3. Promotes childrens health safety and personal hygiene (including diapering when necessary).
4. Supports the successful participation of all children including children with disabilities and diverse developmental and learning needs.
5. Adheres to Boston Public Schools policies procedures and reporting requirements.
6. Maintains a safe nurturing and inclusive environment conducive to childrens learning and development.
7. Collaborates with afterschool Facilitators school staff and families to support childrens success.
8. Participates in required orientation staff meetings and training.

Qualifications Required:

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Nine (9) credit hours of college coursework in early childhood education or related field or forty-eight (48) credit hours of college coursework or an Associates Degree or a passing score on one of the following formalized standardized assessments:

• ParaPro Assessment; or
• ACT WorkKeys Certificate of Proficiency for Teacher Assistants.

1. Minimum of two years of experience working with young children.
2. Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

Qualifications Preferred:

1. Additional education coursework or professional training is preferred. Preparation in Early Childhood Education Child Development Special Education or a related field is highly desirable. Coursework in Child Growth and Development is particularly valued.
2. Experience working with preschool-aged children in an early childhood preschool or afterschool setting.
3. Experience supporting young children with disabilities in inclusive or specialized early childhood settings.
4. Experience working in a Boston Public Schools setting particularly at the school where the position is located.
5. Familiarity with the students families and school community served by the program.
6. Proficiency in Cape Verdean Creole and English.
