Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke Salem Roanoke County Craig County Franklin County and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9000 students in credit courses and more than 1400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Come teach the next generation of nurses in a student-focused team-oriented environment! Virginia Western Community College located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley is accepting applications for a full-time nine-month Practical Nursing Faculty in the School of Health Professions beginning the Fall 2026 semester (i.e. August 2026). Nine-month teaching faculty contracts for the full academic year are from August 16th to May 15th with pay and benefits are spread over 12 months. The incumbent will have a teaching load of approximately 15 credits per semester which may include distance-learning courses on-campus labs and off-campus clinical experiences during the day and evening on weekdays and weekends. Instruction may be provided in a classroom laboratory and/or clinical setting. Responsibilities include teaching college level courses in Practical Nursing as well as serving as the Program Head for the Certificate in Practical Nursing Program which involves administrative responsibilities such as curriculum development course and program assessments continuous quality improvement budget planning/preparation purchasing mentoring program faculty/staff Virginia Board of Nursing management as well as clinical site obtainment and coordination. Faculty teaching responsibilities may include face-to-face and hybrid/distance-learning courses as well as on-campus labs during the day and evening on weekdays and addition to teaching all faculty members advise students serve on college committees and participate in other activities that support the mission of the college. Such activities may include but are not limited to: accreditation activities institutional effectiveness activities club sponsorship student recruitment course and program evaluation community service and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and in trends in community college education. This posting has been designated as open until filled . Review of applications will begin December 1 2025 and will continue until the position is filled.
