Overview
The Registered Polysomnographic Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Sleep Supervisor and general direction of the Clinical Coordinator and Medical Director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography diagnostic and therapeutic service patient care and education. Collect analyze and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure pertinent medical/social history) and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or Medical Director and department protocols.

What you will do
- Recommends and participates in resource changes that support cost containment and waste reduction.
- Complies with applicable laws regulations guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. Responsible for assuring safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals and support safe practices as recommended by the National Quality Forum.
- Uses RMG standards of customer excellence to anticipate meet and exceed the needs of the patient. Demonstrates a service attitude leads by example and focuses on continuous performance improvement to achieve world class results.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment assessment and education of pediatric adolescent adult and geriatric patients. Reviews history physician information medications procedure request and study protocol . Performs appropriate physiological calibrations to ensure proper signals and makes adjustments if necessary. Performs routine positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting. Implements appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure oxygen administration etc.).
- Documents routine observations including sleep stage and clinical events changes in procedure and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. Scores sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. Scores clinical events (such as respiratory events cardiac events limb movements arousals etc. ) with center specific protocols.
- Follows procedural protocols (such as nocturnal polysomnography multiple sleep latency test maintenance of wakefulness test CPAP/BiPAP and oxygen titration etc. ) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Performs polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments if necessary. Follows lights out procedures to establish and document baseline values. Follows lights on procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collections process.
- Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations in dealing with co-workers physicians patients patients families and the public in a tactful manner as to promote understanding and cooperation.

Education
- Program Graduate Certificate by the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BRPT) (Required)
Experience
- 1 year Polysomnography (Preferred)
Licenses and Certifications
- Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) - Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
