The James Madison University Police Department is accepting applications for a full-time Police Sergeant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervises and manages on campus patrol personnel and coordinates daily patrol operations
- Meets departmental standards on active shooter training and maintains certification on department issued firearms
- Assists with patrol administration and operation
- Provides technical assistance in department equipment and management
- Supervises and manages the performance evaluation process
- Provides effective supervision to employees
- Supervises patrol operations and communications
- May be required to perform other duties as assigned
- May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in a position consistent with a supervisors skill set in the event of an emergency
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Must be a Commonwealth of Virginia Certified Police Officer
Must have a valid Virginia drivers license
Must have completed Field Training
Additional Considerations:
Personnel who have spent a considerable amount of time in patrol.
Strong understanding of case law as its applied to Campus Policing
Strong understanding of the U. S. Constitution as it relates to the 1st 4th 5th and 6th amendments.
A demonstrated understanding and commitment to the Mission of the James Madison University Police Department.
Additional Posting Information:
Employees permanently assigned to night shift qualify for shift differential pay in addition to their base salary.
