Location: Shelton CT - Onsite daily (Can work remotely occasionally once established)

Note: Someone with heavy employee relations and with heavy benefits administration reporting analysis and data - combination of both would be ideal

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of the P&O Director the P&O Generalist is responsible for the successful management of personnel practices policies and benefits. The P&O Generalist is primarily responsible for employee relations policy interpretation benefits administration certain aspects of recruitment on-boarding training performance management and other duties as necessary to ensure maximum effectiveness of the P&O function.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with managing the Companys health benefits including invoicing for all employee benefit plans including union health insurance plans.
  • Works with the P&O Director ADP Benefits Specialist and brokers to ensure a seamless open enrollment process for benefits for employees each year. This includes preparing rate sheets conducting testing of system and answering employee questions.
  • Will occasionally participate on interview team for openings and conduct interviews using appropriate techniques.
  • Conducts background check interactive process reviews by calling candidates and documenting the conversation and overall process.
  • Assist orientations for new employees and/or newly acquired businesses.
  • Administers various P&O plans and procedures for company personnel; assists in development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures to satisfy legal requirements.
  • Ensures consistent and accurate interpretation of P&O policies across the organization and conducts regular audits to monitor and enforce compliance.
  • Provide advice and counsel to managers and supervisors regarding personnel practices policy and employment laws.
  • Handles employee relations counseling and employee complaint investigations.
  • Assists managers/supervisors in required personnel functions such as disciplinary procedures and appropriate corresponding paperwork/documentation.
  • Participates in developing department goals objectives and systems.
  • Monitors and records performance evaluation program for hourly employees and works with Talent Development Specialist regarding necessary training needs.
  • Assists in the development coordination and implementation of new manager training to ensure leaders understand and can effectively carry out their leadership responsibilities including the proper procedures and forms to be utilized in P&O.
  • Responds to and supports Companys position in unemployment claims.
  • Recommends new approaches policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and services performed.
  • Travel to various sites throughout the northeast to meet with managers supervisors and employees.
  • Will conduct trainings as necessary onsite.
  • Assists in maintaining Human Resource Information System records and compiles reports from database.
  • Assist in maintaining digital personnel file system.
  • May assist as payroll backup if necessary.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of the applicable state/federal statutes and regulations.
  • Ability to write reports business correspondence procedural guidelines and Powerpoint presentations.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.
  • Ability to obtain facts that ensure that information is complete and accurate.
  • Ability to read assimilate and recall with marked proficiency facts figures and descriptions and to search for and obtain information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication (bilingual - Spanish/English a plus)
  • Ability and willingness to work with other departments the general public and other agency personnel furnishing and obtaining information.
  • Ability to travel by automobile and/or airplane up to 50% of the time.
  • Apply problem solving to analytical principles effectively.
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Excel Word Outlook and ADP Workforce Now software (preferred).

Education And/ OR Experience

  • A bachelors degree and two (2) to four (4) years of P&O experience OR
  • A masters degree in P&O Management and one (1) year of experience in the P&O field OR
  • Six (6) years of experience in the P&O field OR
  • Any similar combination of education and experience.
  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP certification preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a decentralized P&O Department supporting offices across multiple states

Language Skills

Excellent English verbal and written. Spanish nice to have but not required.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written oral diagram or schedule form.

Certificates Licenses Registrations

Drivers License. Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or SHRM-CP and Paralegal Certification a plus
