Position Details
Emergency Hire - Temporary position lasting at most 90 days with an option of being extended to 180 days.
Position Summary
Under general supervision of the Building Trades Manager performs the full range of journey-level plumbing work
required to install maintain inspect troubleshoot repair modify and replace campus plumbing systems. Maintains
domestic water sanitary sewer storm drainage natural gas compressed air irrigation laboratory utilities pumps
valves fixtures piping systems and related equipment. Ensures all work complies with applicable codes campus
standards and safety regulations while providing excellent customer service to the university community. Maintains
accurate maintenance records using the campus computerized maintenance management system.

CSU Classification Salary Range:$5998.00- $8737.00per month
Hiring Range/Rate:$6662.00 (step 6)- $6889.00 (step 8)per month

Work Hours:Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (30-minute lunch break)
Department Information
Facilities Management is responsible for maintaining Sacramento States campus facilities and infrastructure to provide a safe reliable and well maintained environment for students faculty staff and visitors.
Within Facilities Management the Plumbing Shop maintains and repairs the campus plumbing infrastructure that supports academic residential and administrative buildings. Plumbers replace and repair faucets valves water and drain lines water heaters sewer storm domestic water and hot water circulating pumps. They also install new piping and plumbing components for remodel projects. As part of an aggressive preventive maintenance program the team routinely hydro jets sanitary and storm lines to maintain system performance and reliability.
The Plumbing Shop is also responsible for:
- Maintaining and replacing sanitary and storm systems
- Maintaining domestic water mains
- Maintaining natural gas distribution systems
- Maintaining and repairing fire suppression systems including sprinklers standpipes hose cabinets and hydrants
- Performing the layout rough in and final fixture installation of plumbing systems
- Maintaining and repairing all 287 restrooms on campus
- Testing and repairing 84 backflow prevention devices

Knowledge:
Work requires thorough knowledge of the methods materials tools and equipment used in the plumbing trade; a
base knowledge of the operation of building automation systems; and a thorough knowledge of applicable state and
federal health and safety orders and regulations pertaining to the plumbing trade including the California State Safety
Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety and the California State Plumbing codes.
Abilities:
Must be able to perform skilled plumbing work on all applicable equipment and systems; perform applicable welding
work; obtain necessary backflow prevention licenses; make rough sketches of plumbing installations; read and work
from blueprints plans drawings and specifications; estimate materials and labor cost of standard plumbing
maintenance and repair work; maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or
computerized record-keeping systems; provide instruction to unskilled and semi-skilled assistants; analyze and
respond appropriately to emergency situations; prepare standard reports; read and write at the level appropriate to the
position; and perform arithmetic calculations as required by the position.
Incumbents will be required to possess a California Drivers License valid for the operation of any vehicle or
equipment they are required to maintain and operate.
Experience:
These abilities normally would be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and
experience which demonstrates achievement journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a
standard plumbers apprenticeship program.
RequiredQualifications
1. Ability to climb ladders work from lifts crawl spaces tunnels rooftops and confined spaces.
2. Ability to safely operate plumbing equipment power tools and service vehicles.
3. Knowledge of cross-connection control and backflow prevention devices.
4. Working knowledge of computerized work order systems.
5. Ability to obtain required campus certifications.

Preferred Qualifications
10. Experience in higher education healthcare laboratory or institutional facilities.
11. Experience maintaining commercial plumbing systems.
12. Knowledge of domestic hot water recirculation systems.
13. Experience with booster pumps sewage lift stations grease interceptors and water treatment equipment.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Valid California Drivers License and maintenance of safe driving record required
