Duties

This position is located in the Facilities Management Paint Shop. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain and repair the plastered surfaces of all interior and exterior areas of all buildings of the National Gallery of Art campus.

Duties for this position include

  • Mixing applying and finishing of plaster work on a variety of backgrounds such as metal wood drywall and masonry surfaces.
  • Repairing spackling painting and sanding partitioning moldings panels and covers. Taping sanding and finishing drywall joints on walls and ceilings. Accurately replicates existing architectural moldings and reproduces historical moldings needed for installations.
  • Performing the full range of plastering and drywall finishing functions in exhibit areas and galleries. When working around works of art incumbent must exercise caution constant attentiveness and care so that art is not damaged.
  • Selecting chemicals painting products and equipment that will not have adverse effects on the art facility or personnel.
  • Properly maintaining all tools and equipment related to the performance of the work.

Specialized Experience Statement: Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in responsibility to the WG-09 level in the Federal service or private sector; mixing applying and finishing of plaster work on a variety of backgrounds (i.e. metal wood drywall) masonry services taping/finishing joints when repairing wall board AND performing drywall work.

Merit promotion applicants must meet the time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300 Subpart F.One year at the WG-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the WG-10 level.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g. professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community student social). Your resume must include the dates of all qualifying experience (from month/year to month/year) and the number of hours worked/volunteered per week.
