Job Summary:
Ensure that trenches are excavated and prepared for pipes. Responsible for assembling connecting and construction of pipe systems for various utility services including: stormwater domestic water storm drains sanitation sewer irrigation and dry utilities. Align and connect pipes and fittings.
Minimum Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 3 years of experience with underground utility and pipe laying work.
Able to perform strenuous manual labor activities for the workday.
Hear and speak sufficient to answer the phone and communicate with employees and others.
Vision for reading and writing to see clearly at all distances on construction sites and at night.
Able to walk and climb around job sites and in and out of equipment where ground conditions and elevations are variable.
Able to kneel crouch bend.
Able to work in extreme weather hot and cold.
Physical strength to operate hand pumps and lift 60 pounds.
Reliable transportation
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Perform all duties safely.
Dig trenches with trenching tools or hand tools.
Grade or level trench bases using various tools.
Measure and cut pipe to required length following verbal or written instructions or plans.
Install pipe alignments following verbal or written instructions or plans.
Install pipe and ensure proper fitting and alignment using instruments such as lasers grade rods or transit levels.
Tap and connect to existing pipes.
Check slopes for conformance to requirements using levels or laser.
Connect pipe and fittings using glue cement mechanical fittings or HDPE welding equipment.
Backfill trenches with earth or other materials.
May assist with training or supervising other pipelayers and laborers.
Operate pickup trucks and other equipment used to transport materials on and off the job site.
Assist with other strenuous manual labor including: prepping surfaces for pipe shoveling spreading and leveling dirt or gravel loading and unloading materials for the jobsite.
Excellent attendance and timeliness.
Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Accurate and proficient communication and teamwork with peers operators mechanics and supervisors.
Excellent safety and reliability record.
Accurate recordkeeping.
Customer/Client focus reliance on integrity and honesty.
Ability to inspect work for quality and accuracy.
Knowledge of pipelaying practices.
Ability to use various pieces of equipment. Or learn to use with proper training.
Work Hours:
Regular hours are typically day shift hours; Monday through Friday up to 60 hours per week depending on season.
Overtime may be required during the busy season.
Occasional Saturday and/or Sunday work as assigned.
