Physician Program Director, Internal Medicine Residency

Job Summary
The Program Director is responsible for the leadership organization operation and general administration of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. The Program Director is also responsible for the standards quality and reputation of the program. They will be expected to integrate the program with existing hospital services in a manner that enhances value and quality for patients and residents educational experiences as well as promote an optimum environment for professional development. The program director must administer and maintain an educational environment conducive to educating the residents in each of the ACGME competency areas. The Program Director will collaborate with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC) and DIO to prepare and present routine status reports on the program and its residents as well as meet all required ACGME standards to obtain and continue program certification.
Responsibilities
Job Standards and Performance Expectations
- Strategic Leadership and Operations
- Prepares written goals and objectives of the program with respect to the knowledge skills and other attributes of residents for each level of training and for each major rotation or assignment.
- Plans coordinates and implements curriculum and evaluates methodology for the six general ACGME competencies.
- Approves the selection of program faculty as appropriate.
- Is familiar with and complies with ACGME and Review Committee policies and procedures as outlined in the ACGME Manual of Policies and Procedures.
- Develops training schedules and assignments to meet the educational goals of the program.
- Provides discipline when appropriate and is available for advice or counseling.
- Prepares and submits information required and requested by the ACGME including but not limited to the program information forms and annual program resident updates to the ADS and ensure that the information submitted is accurate and complete.
- Conducts an annual recruitment interview and selection process.
- Quality and Performance Improvement
- Oversees and ensures the quality of didactic and clinical education in all sites that participate in the program.
- Provides each resident with documented semiannual evaluation of performance with feedback.
- Monitors the need for and ensures the provision of back up support systems when patient care responsibilities are unusually difficult or prolonged.
- Monitors resident stress fatigue sleep deprivation including mental or emotional conditions inhibiting the performance of learning and drug or alcohol related dysfunction.
- Develops and implements dependable measures to assess residents skills in the general competencies of patient care medical knowledge practice-based learning and improvement interpersonal and communications skills professionalism and systems-based practices. Develops and implements dependable measures to assess residents competence in other areas as defined in the ACGME program requirements for the particular specialty.
- Evaluates program faculty and approves the continued participation of program faculty based on evaluation.
- Collaboration and Partnership
- Facilitates resident participation in educational and scholarly activities required by the program and sponsoring institution.
- Maintains clinical responsibilities in continuity clinic as deemed appropriate.
- Serves as liaison with appropriate personnel at other institutions participating in training.
- Implements policies and procedures consistent with the institutional and program requirements for resident duty hours and the working environment including moonlighting.
- Complies with the sponsoring institutions written policies and procedures including those specified in the Institutional Requirements for selection evaluation and promotion of residents disciplinary action and supervision of residents.
- Ensures compliance with grievance and due process procedures as set forth in the Institutional Requirements and implemented by the sponsoring institution.
- Other Duties As Assigned
- Performs other duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
Experience - 3 years of Graduate Medical Education or administrative experience. Applicants with less than 3 years of experience may be considered for Associate Program Director role
Education - M.D.
