Job Summary

Summary

This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Duties
  • You will evaluate patients for fitness for duty and for meeting the Medical Retention Determination Point (MRDP) by conducting a complex and comprehensive review for all cases considered for referral into the Disability Evaluation System (DES).
  • You will serve as gatekeeper for all readiness activities therefore must conduct extensive research in complex cases by consultation with other professionals.
  • You will serve as the Medical Evaluation Board Approving Authority (MEBAA): oversees all medical readiness processes related to MEB activities and represents Medical Evaluation Board (MEB)-2 for convening a Medical Evaluation Board.
  • You will conduct training and serve as a board-certified medical expert on the MEB process to residents interns and other medical students/staff existing and new providers on MEB related matters.
  • You will serve as a nationally recognized expert consultant and/ or advisor on boards and committees in conferences and other activities.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is eligible for ad-hoc/situational telework at the discretion of management.
Qualifications

For GP-15: In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:

  • Providing an in-depth working knowledge of Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) processes regulations and disability evaluation standards.
  • Practicing in one or more clinical areas or specialties-such as occupational medicine internal medicine family medicine or preventative medicine (with specialty physicians considered by exception)-including experience demonstrating an extensive understanding of underlying medical conditions necessary to effectively adjudicate complex musculoskeletal or surgical cases.
  • Practicing medicine as a Board Certified physician supported by the maintenance of a current active full and unrestricted license or registration to practice as a Physician from a State the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United States.
  • Writing Medical Evaluation Reports for disabilities.

Education

Basic Requirements

Degree: Doctor of Medicine Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association(external link); Association of American Medical Colleges(external link); Liaison Committee on Medical Education(external link); Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association(external link) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education(external link) at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates(external link) a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

Licensure

For all grade levels and positions applicants must possess a current active full and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State the District of Columbia the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico or a territory of the United Training

Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting i.e. a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard graduate training programs include only those internship residency and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below.

An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g. internal medicine surgery general practice obstetrics-gynecology and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or(external link) American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link) (AMA) American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME)(external link).

A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. For GS-15 -- 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training.

Assignment to this position description requires incumbent to possess and maintain board certification.

In accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B all personnel including direct and indirect care providers administrators ancillary services volunteers students and others who may come in contact with patients must receive and maintain appropriate vaccination against seasonal influenza. The incumbent must as a condition of employment be immunized on an annual basis against influenza. Refer to local command influenza instruction.

In accordance with BUMEDINST 6230.15 susceptible or occupationally exposed health care employees who have direct contact with patients will receive appropriate immunization against communicable diseases unless a current immunization a protective titer or a medical exemption
is documented. This policy applies to all health care settings regardless of age or sex of the health care employee. Employees who have contact with or potential exposure to human blood or blood products (whether from patient care laboratory or other health care settings) are provided hepatitis B virus vaccine in accordance with the local blood borne pathogen exposure-control plan.
