Job Title: Physical Therapist Assistant
Location: Castro Valley CA 94546
Job Summary:
Responsible for patient care under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist as mandated by the applicable State Practice Act. Possesses the training and education required to assist the Physical Therapist in carrying out prescribed treatment programs.
Essential Functions:
  • Understand and comply with the applicable State Practice Act governing the practice of Physical Therapist Assistants under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Review and adhere to the organizations Clinical Operations Policies and Procedures Manual on an annual basis.
  • Complete all required Medicare compliance training in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Complete annual Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) training and comply with OSHA standards and other applicable governmental regulations.
  • Clean and prepare treatment areas and equipment following OSHA guidelines.
  • Carry out skilled treatment programs as directed by a licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Communicate patient comments progress and activities clearly to therapists through verbal and written communication.
  • Document patient care using accepted medical terminology and documentation standards.
  • Complete all required documentation (daily notes charge tickets etc.) accurately legibly and within established facility physician and payer deadlines.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with co-workers physicians patients family members third-party payers and other stakeholders.
  • Attend and participate in facility meetings as directed by the Center Manager or supervisor including utilization review infection control disaster preparedness and other operational meetings.
  • Complete continuing education requirements necessary to maintain state licensure.
  • Maintain current CPR certification in accordance with state licensure requirements.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Utilize time efficiently to meet productivity expectations.
  • Participate in and present clinical in-service education as assigned.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in healthcare and developments impacting the practice of physical therapy.
  • Contribute to designated areas of clinic or department operations as assigned by management.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong organizational time management and planning skills.
  • Effective active listening reading comprehension and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze reports charts and correspondence accurately.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to frequently lift and assist patients using proper body mechanics and biomedical techniques; must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds independently.
  • Ability to walk bend stand reach and perform physical activities throughout the workday.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to maintain accurate records recognize individuals and interpret written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and auditory capacities.
  • Ability to push wheeled equipment throughout the facility and community settings.
  • Fine motor skills sufficient for preparing patients equipment and treatment supplies.
  • Ability to perform sustained physical activities for extended periods in accordance with applicable labor laws.
Required Qualifications:
  • Graduate of a Physical Therapist Assistant or Physical Therapy education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) or equivalent education recognized for state licensure.
  • Current valid state license registration or certification as a Physical Therapist Assistant as required.
  • Current CPR certification; employee is responsible for maintaining certification throughout employment.
  • Current Tuberculosis (TB) screening/testing in accordance with state requirements; employee is responsible for maintaining compliance throughout employment.
