The district is seeking coverage for this long-term substitute assignment from September 8 2026 through Octobert 30 2026.

Long-term substitutes are compensated at a daily rate of $125.00 for the first 20 workdays of an assignment. Beginning on the 21st workday compensation increases to the applicable daily rate based on the substitutes educational qualifications: $346.55 per day for those with a Bachelors degree or $372.42 per day for those with a Masters degree. This rate remains in effect for the duration of the assignment.

The Physical Education Teacher reports directly to the Principal of the School and is expected to work closely with all district personnel to provide high quality instruction to our diverse student population. S/he will provide a safe equitable culturally responsive learning environment with high expectations for all students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Instructional:

  • Demonstrates a desire to meaningfully integrate technology into the classroom
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods to engage different learning styles and ability levels in the classroom
  • Prepares motivating and stimulating lessons that reflect knowledge of the curriculum child development and student abilities
  • Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective
  • Utilizes a variety of assessments and uses data in the classroom to develop lessons and instructional activities as needed
  • Updates curriculum and materials as needed.

Teaching and Learning Environment:

  • Creates a learning environment that is motivating and age appropriate setting clear expectations for classwork and homework while maintaining current books and instructional resources that support the classroom learning.
  • Seeks to actively know students strengths and weaknesses and responds promptly and with care to parent concerns.
  • Communicates effectively with parents colleagues and administrators.
  • Maintains an accurate and organized system for monitoring student grades and records. Meets reporting deadlines and requirements and follows school-wide procedures for reporting grades.
  • Prepares well-thought-out and thorough conference reports and written documentation on student progress.
  • Maintainsdaily and weekly plans.
  • Demonstrates strong classroom management skills.

Qualifications & Skill Set:

  • Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university required; Masters degree preferred
  • Required Licensure: Current Massachusettss DESE Certification in Physical Education
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching elementary PE.
  • Experience working with students in Special Education programs a plus.

Terms of Employment: As outlined in the Agreement Between The Woburn Teachers Association and The Woburn School Committee.
