Job Summary

Class Title: Physical Education TeacherDepartment: SchoolClassification: Teacher 183 daysImmediate Supervisor: Principal and/or DesigneeCLASS DESCRIPTIONUnder the direction of the Principal the Physical Education Teacher delivers physical education instruction to students in the assigned school(s) and serves as a consultant and physical education teaching specialist to the Principal and other teachers.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Serve as a teaching specialist and consultant to the Principal and teachers in the improvement of physical education instruction when requested.
  2. Follow a regular schedule of physical education lessons with each classroom as designated by regulation in every assigned school.
  3. Cooperate with the Principal of each school and work under the Principals direction and supervision in establishing and carrying out the physical education program in the school.
  4. Attend all meetings called by the Principal that involve the schools physical education program.
  5. Assist the Assistant Superintendent by:
  6. Attending and cooperating in all meetings relative to the physical education program.
  7. Taking an active part in the State Physical Education Educators Organization.
  8. Attending Physical Education conferences and/or workshops designated by the Superintendent of Schools.
  9. Teach develop and emphasize concepts of health and safety as an integral part of the program.
  10. Follow the most recently approved teaching syllabus developed by the department to guide instruction in meeting the physical education needs of all children.
  11. Maintain within the scope of the program design an optimum and integrated use of facilities and equipment in the school gymnasium.
  12. Assist the Principal in maintaining an up-to-date inventory of all physical education equipment in the gymnasium.

  13. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSEducation and Experience (Required):
  • Bachelors degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Valid Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) certification in the applicable area of instruction.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 35 years of teaching experience.
