Summary

Responsible for collecting and processing blood specimens from patients for laboratory testing. Operates with a moderate level of supervision identifying and resolving common issues independently. Provide effective training and education to new employees and students as assigned.

Essential Functions
-Obtains quality blood samples using a variety of phlebotomy methods for all age groups.
-Ensures accurate patient identification quality specimen labeling processing handling and transportation of specimens.
-May assist in the recovery of patients experiencing adverse reactions and provide a rapid response to medical emergencies in the inpatient setting.
-Communicates effectively with patients and patient care teams explaining procedures and addressing patient concerns to ensure a high level of customer satisfaction.
-Troubleshoots and resolves specimen order and common operational issues within the work area.
-Provides some training and education to new staff and students.
-Handles sharps and biohazardous materials in accordance with regulatory requirements to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
-Works fluently with computer programs and systems and complies with HIPAA regulations.
-Performs other tests administration and specimen collection as assigned.
