Job Summary
This position is for a certified Pharmacy Technician at VA Gulf Coast Veterans HealthCare System. Pharmacy Technicians at this grade level are nationally certified by Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or Certified Pharmacy Technician (ExCPT) and can work autonomously using independent judgement to perform a full range of duties. Pharmacy Technicians above the FPL can mentor and train lower grade Pharmacy Technicians in the practice setting.

Basic Requirements:
- Citizenship. Citizen of the United States: (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with chapter 3 section A paragraph 3g Education or Experience: A high school diploma or equivalent; or at least 3 months experience.
- Certification: Certification by the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) is required at grades GS-6 and above.
- English Language Proficiency: Pharmacy technicians appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with chapter 2 section D paragraph 5a this part.
Grandfathering Provision: The following is the standard grandfathering policy for all Title 38 hybrid qualification standards. Some of these provisions may not apply to this occupation. Grade Determinations:
Experience: One year experience at the next lower level and must fully meet the KSAs at the next lower level.
In addition the candidate must demonstrate the following technical KSAs and the potential to acquire the assignment specific KSAs designated by an asterisk (*):
Demonstrated Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- * Ability to evaluate analyze workflow and coordinate work activities.
- Ability to independently gather evaluate and analyze data to generate reports and/or for other projects/statistical purposes.
- Knowledge of pharmacy policies and procedures sufficient to train and orient new employees and other staff
- Comprehensive knowledge of the operation and care of specialized pharmaceutical equipment.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the procurement and formulary process.
- Comprehensive knowledge of investigational drug policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of controlled substance policies and procedures and the ability to identify and investigate discrepancies in these policies and procedures.
- Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to analyze data in VA information systems.
Physical Requirements: Physical aspects associated with work required of this assignment are typical for the occupation see Duties section for essential job duties of the position. May require standing lifting carrying sitting stooping bending puling and pushing. May be required to wear personal protective equipment and undergo annual TB screening or testing as conditions of employment.
Work Environment: Work is performed in an office/clinic setting with minimal risks that requires normal safety precautions; the area is adequately lighted heated and ventilated. However the work environment requires someone with the ability to handle several tasks at once in sometimes stressful situations.
