Job Summary
The Patient Services Coordinator I supports Care Center operations by performing front-end clinical operational activities such as registering/checking in patients cashiering gathering and providing appropriate information collecting co-pays and answering the phones under the direction of more senior Care Center staff. This position will additionally schedule and confirm patient appointments provide routine financial counseling process insurance and gather insurance authorization information. The incumbent will interact with patients families clinicians administrative staff and third-party payers and provide customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
1. Schedule new and follow-up patient appointments. Ensure that appointments are confirmed prior to the date of service.
2. Reschedule/Reassign patient appointments based on clinician leave requests (planned and unexpected). Collaboratively work with supervisor to resolve patient concern(s)
3. Maintain regular contact with patients clinics and departments regarding pending insurance clearances coverage issues and/or follow-up activity. Respond to patients families and clinic issues in a timely and professional manner.
4. Monitor Epic work queue and caseload reports for tracking internal/external consults.
5. Regularly monitor new and follow-up treatment appointments; cancellations and no shows.
6. Collect patient and treatment information provide cost estimates and determine patient liability
7. Help to establish and coordinate payment arrangements with non-par payer sources
8. Process various types of insurance for a clinic(s)/provider(s).
9. Maintain a general and updated understanding of insurance requirements as they relate to the Care Center.
10. Retrieve and assess system information related to insurance authorization for patient services from the Patient Access department.
11. Assist supervisor with training new Patient Services Specialist staff.
12. Perform all duties of the Patient Services Specialist and serve as a backup as needed.
13. Serve as a code green team member and respond to clients in behavioral crises as part of the programs crisis management procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must successfully complete and maintain appropriate certification and fluency with EPIC according to the timeline established by the clinic/program/department.
Must obtain and maintain certification in the approved patient crisis response program as required and according to the timeline established by the clinic/program/department.
EDUCATION:
High School diploma GED or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of relevant experience with a focus on scheduling registration and administrative support in a medical/healthcare setting required.
