Job Summary

In this role youll work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive the support comfort and care they need throughout their healthcare journey. As a Patient Care Technician you will:
Assist patients with daily living activities including hygiene mobility feeding repositioning and comfort needs
Monitor and record vital signs and other patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Observe and report changes in patient conditions to the care team
Support patient admissions transfers and discharges
Perform specimen collection and point-of-care testing as assigned
Collaborate with nurses physicians and team members to deliver high-quality patient care
Maintain a safe clean and healing environment for patients
Provide clerical and unit support including answering phones and monitoring call lights when needed
Depending on training department needs and competency validation PCTs may also perform advanced patient care skills including:
- Enteral tube feeding
- Blood culture collection
- Wound care and dressing changes
- IV removal
- Burn dressing changes and debridement
- Chest tube setup
- Suture tray setup
- Visual acuity testing
- Pelvic exam setup
- Whirlpool wound care treatments
- Additional clinical skills as assigned
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- CNA CPCT or enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum OR
- Age 18 or older and eligible to participate in Mercys UAP training program
- BLS Certification within one month of hire
- Completion of required PCT competencies within three months of hire
No experience required.
For candidates without prior experience Mercy provides a comprehensive 175-hour training program that meets state requirements and helps prepare you for success in your new role.

- Previous patient care experience

- Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift
- Ability to lift push and pull up to 50 pounds regularly
- Reaching bending kneeling twisting squatting and gripping as part of daily patient care activities
