The Statler Hotel located on Cornell Universitys campus is renowned as the premier hotel that teaches. It serves as the practical hotel operations laboratory for the Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration providing students with hands-on experience in hospitality management. The hotel combines modern elegance with the vibrant energy of campus life offering guests a unique and immersive stay. With over 150 rooms and state-of-the-art conference facilities it hosts numerous important events and meetings. The Statler Hotel is committed to excellence in service and hospitality education making it a cornerstone of Cornells hospitality program.

The material handler is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the receiving department for both the school of hotel administration and the statler hotel. This role ensures the accurate receipt inspection storage and distribution of all deliveries while maintaining high standards of organization accountability and service.

Key responsibilities include verifying incoming shipments against vendor invoices purchase orders and receiving documentation with careful attention to product quality quantity and condition. The material handler distributes products packages and supplies to the appropriate departments based on purchase orders shipping labels or vendor documentation and promptly notifies recipients upon delivery.

The material handler is responsible for receiving storing and handling food products in accordance with tompkins county health department regulations and applicable food safety standards ensuring proper temperature control product rotation labeling and storage practices are maintained at all times.

This position utilizes the notifii package management system to accurately register track and document incoming packages and deliveries ensuring timely notification and accountability throughout the delivery process.

When recipients are unavailable the material handler secures deliveries in the receiving area communicates receipt via phone and email and coordinates follow-up delivery as appropriate. This position is also responsible for accurately matching invoices and purchase orders to ensure proper documentation and inventory control.

Additional duties include processing outgoing ups shipments coordinating fedex pickups and maintaining a clean safe and organized receiving area. This includes ensuring that cardboard recycling and compost materials are removed daily and that the receiving area is swept and mopped on a regular basis.

The material handler supports the operational excellence of the statler hotel by maintaining efficient receiving and distribution processes and may be assigned additional duties as needed to meet business demands.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to read write and speak English.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times.
  • Comfortable preforming basic arithmetic.
  • Must possess a valid NY State Drivers License with no major driving violations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience required.
  • 2 -3 years experience in warehouse or receiving setting.
  • Able to meet a schedule that is subject to frequent change on short notice and be able to work flexible hours including early mornings evenings holidays and weekends as needed (infrequent).
  • Experience using Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
