Under supervision performs a variety of customer service and clerical tasks to support library operations. Exercises no supervision.
Examples of Duties

Examples of duties may include but are not limited to the following:
  • Sorts books publications and other items according to established procedures and returns them to shelves or designated areas;
  • Performs routine circulation tasks required to serve the public including checking the status of patron accounts checking in and out library materials;
  • Assists patrons with material searches and the use of library equipment;
  • Performs clerical activities such as filing typing and data entry;
  • Assists in setting up rooms for programs meetings and special events; and
  • Performs related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Basic library operating principles including confidentiality of customer information;
  • Basic record keeping principles and procedures;
  • Principles and practices of customer services;
  • Modern office practices methods and computer equipment; and
  • English usage grammar spelling vocabulary and punctuation.
Ability to:
  • Learn to perform a variety of library clerical duties;
  • Learn interpret and apply library rules and regulations;
  • Ability to become familiar with technical library services and learn online bibliographic systems;
  • Operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized library services software applications programs;
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing;
  • Interact effectively and sensitively with individuals from diverse backgrounds; and
  • Establish maintain and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
Experience:
  • No required experience.
Special Requirements:
Essential functions require the following physical skills and work environment:
  • Ability to work in a standard library environment;
  • Ability to sit stand walk kneel crouch stoop squat twist carry items up and down staircases push and lift up to 40 pounds; and
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings holidays and weekends.
